Mary Washington Freshman Savannah Powers Selected as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Savannah Powers was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 3, 2016.

Mary Washington freshman Savannah Powers was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after averaging 3.43 kills and 3.00 digs per game while hitting .302 in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. Against Southern Virginia, Powers notched 12 kills and just one error while also adding nine digs and four total blocks. Against Frostburg State, she posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs along with one block assist. She also added a pair of service aces on the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 14 and Mary Washington is ranked No. 17 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 ... Mary Washington, Christopher Newport, and Salisbury are each 2-0 in CAC play, while Marymount is 1-0 ... CNU freshman Riley Garrison posted a team-high 30 kills, nine blocks, and .424 hitting percentage in a 3-0 week for the Captains, including CAC victories over Southern Virginia and Frostburg State ... Frostburg State junior Lindsey Scepura registered 27 digs and three assists on the week ... Marymount senior Cailyn Thomas paced the Saints to a perfect 3-0 week, moving them to 14-5 for the season. After opening up CAC play with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's, the Saints defeated Washington & Lee and Virginia Wesleyan in a Saturday tri-match. Thomas notched 2.75 kills per game with 11 kills in each match, hitting .276 for the week. The Saints handed Washington & Lee just its second loss of the season ... Penn State Harrisburg's Brittany Wolf had 35 kills and 20 digs in three matches last week including 15 kills and 11 digs in a win against Wesley for the Lions first-ever CAC victory ... Alli Graf registered three double-doubles in a 2-2 week for St. Mary's. Graf paced the Seahawks offensively vs. Marymount and Randolph-Macon while contributing defensively as well with 10+ digs in each match ... Salisbury senior Katie Stouffer totaled 30 kills in two CAC victories this weekend, averaging 5.0 kills per set. Stouffer was key at the net, as well, totaling five blocks, including one solo, in the two wins this week ... Southern Virginia's Hannah Allred registered 42 kills last week. Allred leads the team in kills per game, hitting %, service aces per game, and solo blocks ... Wesley's Tionne Graves-Brown recorded 20 kills in a four-game match on Friday night at Penn State Harrisburg, one shy of tying Wesley's single-match kills record. She also recorded 19 digs in the match and tacked on a pair of aces and a block. Graves-Brown alone accounted for 22.5 Wesley points on the evening. Against York she added an ace, a block, 12 digs, and five kills.
