FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Marymount freshman Maggie Viniard was selected as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 30, 2017.

Marymount freshman Maggie Viniard was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after posting four double-doubles and helping the Saints earn a spot in the CAC Tournament with a 3-1 record last week. Viniard set a new career high in assists three times last week, dishing out 42 against Catholic, then 46 in a five-set victory over Frostburg State to earn a bid into the CAC Tournament, and concluded the week with 48 against Lebanon Valley in another five-set thriller. With her 34 against Southern Virginia, she finished with 170 assists for the week as 9.44 per set. She notched 3.50 digs per set, including 18 in the crucial victory over Frostburg State. She also added five kills for the week, including a career-high four against Frostburg, and three service aces and three blocks on the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The CAC regular season wrapped up last week, and the six-team CAC Tournament will begin with Tuesday's first round ... Tuesday's first round matchups will feature No. 6 Marymount at No. 3 Southern Virginia and No. 5 York at No. 4 Salisbury, both at 7 p.m. ... No. 1 Christopher Newport and No. 2 Mary Washington will host Thursday's semifinals ... Christopher Newport is No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Oct. 24 National Rankings ... In the NCAA Regional Rankings, CNU is ranked No. 4 and Salisbury is No. 11 in the Mid-Atlantic Region ...Senior Naya Cheatem smacked 46 kills in two five-set thrillers last week for Frostburg State, including a season-high 27 kills in a 3-2 win over St. Mary's ... Mary Washington ran its win streak to seven straight with three wins this week, locking up the CAC No. 2 seed and a first-round bye ... Meghan Kelley collected a pair of double-doubles for St. Mary's in its three matches this past week. Kelley started the week by putting up a match- and season-best 25 kills, hitting nearly .300, and adding a career-best 18 digs against Virginia Wesleyan. She continued with her third career double-double on 12 kills and 10 digs while hitting close .300 once again vs. Southern Virginia. Kelley ended the week with 24 kills, eight digs, and a career-best six block assists against Frostburg State ... Nicole Venturelli helped the Salisbury volleyball team to a 1-1 week. Venturelli led the team with 29 total kills this past week including 19 in the team's final CAC match of the season in a 3-1 win against Wesley. The 29 kills moves Venturelli within 46 kills of 1,000 for her career and leaves atop the conference with 424 for the season ... Southern Virginia senior Hannah Allred posted three double-doubles in a 4-0 week for the Knights, clinching the highest playoff spot in program history. Allred led the team with 58 kills - 4.14 k/s - which is above her average for the year. She eads the team and is fourth in the CAC with .53 service aces per set this season ... Wesley senior outside hitter Tionne Graves-Brown collected her 1,000th kill against Salisbury to become the first player in Wesley volleyball history to tally 1,000 kills in a career. She also became the first Wesley player to record the career double-double with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
