The York women's cross country team captured its second straight Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News, Va., led by a balanced efforts with four Spartan runners in the top 10. The Spartans totaled 51 points to edge out second-place Salisbury (60 points) and third-place Mary Washington (65 points).

The 2017 CAC Cross Country Championship meet will be hosted by Christopher Newport at Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News, Va. on Saturday. Race time for women's 6k is set for 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at noon.

Southern Virginia freshman Morgan Bingham secured CAC Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year after placings 15th overall in a field of 280 runners at the 31-team Gettysburg Invitational. Bingham broke the Southern Virginia women's 6k record with a time of 23:30.
York Junior Jess DelViscio Earns CAC Women's Cross Country Weekly Honors

York junior Jess DelViscio earned CAC Athlete of the Week honors after leading the Spartans to a fifth-place team finish among 22 teams at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday. DelViscio placed 18th out of 224 runners with a 6k time of 24:28.1, averaging 6:34 per mile.
Salisbury Senior Alison Schwartz Named CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Salisbury senior Alison Schwartz was named the CAC Athlete of the Week after placing sixth at the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday. Schwartz raced to a time of 22:21.08 in the 6k run, averaging a pace of 5:59.7 per mile to finish third among Division III runners. Schwartz's efforts helped the Sea Gulls to a second-place team finish in a field of 11 teams. It was her second top-10 placing of the season.

Marymount Junior Denise Gallant Earns CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Accolades

Marymount junior Denise Gallant earned CAC Athlete of the Week accolades after placing sixth in a field of 68 runners at the Shannon Henretty Invitational. Gallant crossed the 6k course in 25:20.50, leading the Saints to a fourth-place team finish. It was her second top-10 finish in as many races this season and third in her last seven.
Christopher Newport Sophomore Jessica Lee Named CAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Jessica Lee was named the CAC Athlete of the Week after securing a victory in the 4k at the Mary Washington Cross Country Opener at the Clift Farm Road Course. Lee registered a time of 14:58.0, which topped the next closest competitor by over 10 seconds. Her clocking also marked the second-fastest 4k time in program history, falling just one second shy of the standard set by Jade Zaharoff in 2011. Lee also helped guide Christopher Newport to the team title as the Captains finished with a score of 20, highlighted six runners in the top-10.

Defending champion York was chosen as the favorite to repeat as champions in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll. The Spartans received six first-place votes and tallied 76 points to headline the CAC field of 10 squads.
Sarah Lagasse Named Head Cross Country Coach at Christopher Newport
