Christopher Newport University Earns Second Straight C2C All-Sports Award Sweep
Christopher Newport University captured six titles among the 17 conference sports to sweep all three categories of the 2022-23 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) All-Sports Award competition. The Captains finished atop the standings in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award, the Men's Commissioner's Award and the Women's Commissioner's Award.
In addition to their six team championships, the CNU Captains compiled runner-up finishes in eight sports en route to a 83.3 percentage total in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award standings. CNU totaled 85.5 percent of the possible points in ten women's sports and 80.3 percent in the seven men's sports to win the overall competition by 9.9 percent over UC Santa Cruz.
Christopher Newport earned team championships in women's soccer, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's basketball and women's outdoor track and field throughout the 2022-23 school year.
It marks the sixth overall and second straight C2C (formerly CAC) all-sports trophy for the Captains. The Women's Commissioner's Award is also the sixth overall for CNU, while they secured the Men's Commissioner's Award for the fourth time.
UC Santa Cruz placed second overall with two C2C titles in men's and women's cross country. The Banana Slugs compiled a 73.4 percentage in the all-sports standings, including 73.9 percent in the women's standings to finish second. UCSC also finished second in the men's standings at 72.9 percent.
Mary Washington landed in third place in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award rankings with a 71.0 percent total. The Eagles won four titles in women's volleyball, men's soccer and men's and women's tennis en route to a tied-for-third place finish in the Men's Commissioner's Standings (71.1) and solo third in the Women's Commissioner's Standings (70.9).
Salisbury tallied 69.4 percent to claim fourth place in the All-Sports standings. The Sea Gulls won five C2C titles in field hockey, men's outdoor track and field, women's lacrosse, baseball and softball. SU finished tied-for-third in the men's (71.1) and fourth in women's (68.2) standings.
Finlandia (35.1) finished in fifth place with Warren Wilson (30.4) close behind in sixth place. Mount Mary (27.8) and Pratt (24.7) round out the standings in seventh and eight positions, respectively.
