SU’s Emma Skoglund and UCSC’s Will Whitty Receive C2C Medal of Inspiration Awards

Salisbury's Emma Skoglund and UC Santa Cruz's Will Whitty were selected by the league's senior woman administrators as recipients of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Medal of Inspiration for the 2022-23 academic year.

The C2C Medal of Inspiration is awarded to person(s) from the league who have persevered through extraordinary circumstances and whose determination, devotion, and passion are exemplary, revered among their peers, and worthy of special recognition.

Skoglund has completed a women's lacrosse career draped in perseverance. After being named CAC Rookie of the Year in 2018, the Easton, Maryland, native battled injuries for the next few seasons, including undergoing back surgery to regain feeling in her legs, to return to action in 2022 and 2023. This past year Skoglund served as a mentor and veteran presence on a Sea Gull team consisting mostly of underclassmen, culminating in SU's third straight C2C championship and Skoglund's first career IWLCA All-America honor.

Whitty, a senior from Benicia, California, tried to return to the basketball court after suffering his third knee injury in five years. Ultimately, he was not able to make it back but never missed a practice, game, or meeting. Whitty became an invaluable resource as a student-assistant coach supporting his teammates by pushing them through practice and keeping them calm and focused during games. Additionally, he served on the Banana Slug marketing team, assisting with game day graphics, social media, and website content.
