C2C Medal of Inspiration Awarded to Salisbury’s Alyssa Santoro

Salisbury's Alyssa Santoro was chosen by the league's senior woman administrators as the recipient of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Medal of Inspiration for the 2023-24 academic year.

The C2C Medal of Inspiration is awarded to person(s) from the league who have persevered through extraordinary circumstances and whose determination, devotion, and passion are exemplary, revered among their peers, and worthy of special recognition.

Santoro persisted to compete and finish her cross country and track and field career with the Sea Gulls.  In December 2023, she lost her father to cancer after receiving the diagnosis a month before his passing.  Then her mother suffered a brain aneurysm at the funeral home and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and stayed for a month to recover.  Santoro took care of her sister and family affairs during this time.  She made the difficult decision to return to Salisbury in the spring semester as her mother improved as she wanted to complete her degree and finish her last track season.

The Forest Hill, Maryland, native, regained her fitness over the indoor season and helped the distance medley relay place third at the 2024 C2C Indoor Championships.  She continued to improve throughout her outdoor season, finishing her career at home during the 2024 C2C Outdoor Championships in a dynamic 5,000-meters race, moving up during the late stages of the race to finish third overall and medaling again for her team. The team and spectators were in tears as she finished, knowing what she and her family had been through over the last few months. Santoro not only persevered but showcased her hard work, leadership and guidance to help the team succeed academically and athletically.
