SU’s Petrucelli, CNU’s Cassedy Receive C2C Weekly Baseball Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2024 baseball season. Salisbury's Tim Petrucelli was named C2C Player of the Week, while Christopher Newport's Brandon Cassedy captured C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tim Petrucelli, Salisbury

Petrucelli hit for the cycle in the second game of the Sea Gulls' doubleheader against Oswego State on Sunday. Petrucelli racked up a double in the second, homer in the fifth, triple in the sixth, and single in the ninth. He finished the twin bill 5-for-10.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Cassedy, Christopher Newport

Cassedy put together the finest outing of his career and one of the best pitching performances in Christopher Newport baseball history. He threw eight scoreless innings and allowed three hits and one walk. He combined with two relievers to shut out Wittenberg, 4-0, in the Armstrong Invitational at Methodist University. Cassedy became just the third CNU pitcher in the over 1,600 game history of the program to strike out 16 or more in a game. He punched out a career-high 16 batters, tying for the second most in a game in program history. He faced just 28 batters, four over the minimum, in the victory. The second-year starter struck out a career-high 16 batters over 8.0 innings pitched while allowing just three hits. He joins Austin Chrismon (18 vs. Greensboro on Feb. 24, 2013) and Dwayne Ray (16 vs. Mansfield on March 6, 1993) as the only Captains in the over 1,600-game history of CNU baseball to record 16 strikeouts or more in a game.
