SU’s Kell, CNU’s Cassedy Claim C2C Weekly Baseball Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2024 baseball season. Salisbury's Andrew Kell was tabbed C2C Player of the Week, while Christopher Newport's Brandon Cassedy claimed C2C Pitcher of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Kell, Salisbury

Kell hit a whopping .765 with multi-hit efforts in all five of the Sea Gulls' wins for the week. Kell racked up five extra-base hits, including two home runs, to go along with five RBIs, five stolen bases, 11 runs scored, and a 2.140 OPS. His best game of the week came on Tuesday against Lycoming when he clocked two doubles and one homer.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Cassedy, Christopher Newport

Cassedy continued his stellar start to the season with another quality start in a 9-3 win over Marymount on Friday. He tossed 6.0 innings of two-hit ball while striking out 11 batters. Cassedy allowed two unearned runs in the first inning but then struck out eight of the next nine batters to get into a groove. The sophomore starter recorded ten of the first eleven outs in the game by strikeout and, despite a mounting pitch count, stayed on top of his game late in his outing by retiring seven in a row and 11 of the last 12 batters he faced. Cassedy improved to 4-0 on the season with 49 K in 30.0 IP while boasting a 1.50 ERA. He ranks second nationally in strikeouts and victories.
