SU’s Kell, UMW’s Hassan Claim C2C Weekly Baseball Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 10th week of the 2024 baseball season. Salisbury's Andrew Kell earned C2C Player of the Week honors, while Mary Washington's Connor Hassan was named C2C Pitcher of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Kell, Salisbury

Kell slashed an absurd .727/.688/1.455 with two doubles, two homers, six runs, and nine RBIs during the Sea Gulls' 2-1 week. On Tuesday against Hood he powered both of his home runs, a leadoff blast in the first inning and a grand slam in the second as part of a six-RBI day. Kell drove in his three other runs in an 18-3 win over No. 15 CNU on Saturday.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Connor Hassan, Mary Washington

In three games on the mound this week, Hassan was nearly untouchable out of the bullpen as he pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, striking out eight total hitters (11.37 k/9 rate). Against Penn State-Harrisburg, Hassan picked up his fifth save of the season as he struck out a pair in his two-inning scoreless outing. And against Hampden-Sydney on Sunday, Hassan pitched four innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one base runner per inning, while striking out five and recording the first win of his career.

HONORABLE MENTION

PLAYER: Ty Lowe, Mary Washington; Doc Daniels, Christopher Newport

PITCHER: Aidan Brinsfield, Salisbury; Dylan Weber, Christopher Newport

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

It was nearly impossible to get Mary Washington's Ty Lowe out in five games this week as the senior went 12-for-22 (.545) with two doubles, a homer and 14 RBIs. Lowe, who is lone .400 hitter in the conference with a minimum of 100 at-bats (.412), went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs in a victory over Penn St.-Harrisburg, then posted the exact same stat-line in a victory at No. 17 Shenandoah on Wednesday. Against Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, the Eagles' designated hitter went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader with a home run and seven RBIs… Christopher Newport's Doc Daniels hit a team-high .471 wile slugging .765 during the four-game week ... Delivered two hits in all four games including a 2-for-2 showing with a walk against 4th-ranked Salisbury ... Also drove in three and hit a home run against No. 21 Lynchburg ... Scored five times… Salisbury's Aidan Brinsfield authored the best start of his young career to beat Hood on Tuesday. Brinsfield tossed seven scoreless two-hit innings, walking two and striking out three in the Sea Gulls' 15-1 win. The outing was the longest of Brinsfield's career and tied for the longest by a SU starter this year… Christopher Newport's Dylan Weber started twice this week and picked up a pair of wins with six-inning outings against nationally ranked North Carolina Wesleyan and William Peace ... He struck out 12 batters in both starts, taking over the Division III lead in strikeouts ... Against William Peace, he pitched six innings of a combined shutout while allowing just four hits to the Pacers ... Versus N.C. Wesleyan, he worked himself out of a bases-loaded, nobody out jam with the tying run on third base by striking out the next three batters to escape in line for the win ... Improved to 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA while striking out 88 in 57.0 innings of work this season.
