INTRODUCING ... Hood Senior Men's Basketball Guard Anthony Bennett
The success of every sports team rests not only on the shoulders of the starters and star players, but is directly impacted by the contributions of the reserves. Hood's Anthony Bennett, a four-year letterwinner and standout off the Blazers' bench, is a prime example of the need for quality players throughout the roster and this week's INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete.
What is your background in the sport you play? I've played organized basketball since I was 10 years old. I played all four years in high school and about to complete four years of basketball in college. I have won multiple awards and championships on each level.
What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot on campus is the gym and the weight room.
Other than your team, what organization(s) do you participate in? I am writing for the school newspaper for the sports section.
What is the most important societal issue facing college students? The most important societal issue for college students is finding your crowd of friends who you fit in with.
What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline? I am majoring in communications and the most important thing I've learned in that discipline is learning how to network and how to develop my communication skills through different forms of writing.
Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life? The most influential person in my life other than family members is God because if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am today.
If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be? Never give up on your goals and dreams regardless of how hard things may get and never let anyone tell you you can't do it.
What is your favorite form of entertainment? My favorite form of entertainment is watching professional basketball because it's my favorite sport and I've been a fan of the sport all my life.
Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team? My favorite sports team is the Denver Nuggets and my favorite player is Carmelo Anthony. I like Carmelo because he is from the Maryland area.
Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with. I'd like to have dinner with Michael Jordan, Jay-Z and Barack Obama. Michael Jordan was who I looked up to as a kid. Jay-Z is my favorite rapper of all time. I think it would be interesting to talk to Obama about the future of our country, and how he deals with the pressure of being the first African-American president.
