INTRODUCING ... Wesley College Junior Men's Lacrosse Leading Scorer Justin D'Alonzo

Wesley College senior Justin D’Alonzo was a three-sport athlete at Interboro High School in suburban Philadelphia, then had a stellar career as one of the top scorers for three-straight years for the Wolverines men’s lacrosse team.  In the future, he hopes to be successful in the business/marketing world.  This week, Justin D’Alonzo is the CAC INTRODUCING … featured student-athlete.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I’ve been playing lacrosse since I was in 6th grade. I started out playing for the Interboro lacrosse youth club. I wanted to try playing something besides baseball that year. When I tried it, I loved it. When I got to Interboro High School, I was contemplating whether to play or not during my freshman year. When spring came around, I decided not to try out and after two weeks of not playing, I asked the coach if I can try out late…Tryouts went well.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is Slaybaugh Hall. It is Wesley’s business building and the place you can find me racking up A+’s during the week.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?  I used to play soccer during my freshman year at Wesley. After completing pre-season camp, I decided to focus on lacrosse and play fall ball.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.  Overall, the most memorable experience throughout my athletic career at Wesley is growing and bonding with my teammates. Without my teammates, I never would have enjoyed college as much as I do now. I’ve built friendships that will last a lifetime.  On the field, my most memorable experience was during my sophomore year season. We finished with an 11-6 record and made it to the ECAC playoffs.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  One important issue college students are faced with is learning to gain individual responsibility.  Learning to live on your own, managing your time/money, and keeping on top of academics are challenges that I’ve seen students struggle with often.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?   One issue that is prominent all over the globe and an issue I’d help change is addiction. I’ve seen first-hand how addictions like drugs, alcohol, and gambling can ruin lives, families, and dreams. I feel that addiction is a preventable disease that the world can avoid by staying educated, making right decisions, and surrounding themselves with the right people.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   My major at Wesley College is Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. The most important thing that I’ve learned about business is how important it is for companies to continuously innovate and adapt their product to the ever-changing consumer demand.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  Besides my family, the most influential people in my life would have to be my close friends. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. My friends have helped me make decisions that ultimately decide the rest of my life. My friends are the ones I spend most of my time with and the people that I create unforgettable memories with.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  If I could give advice to elementary school children I would tell them to choose their friends wisely. The people you surround yourself with are the people who help shape and determine your character.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?   My favorite form of entertainment is music. Music is one of those things that can change your mood or allow you to express yourself with just a click of a play button. “One good thing about music, when it hits-you feel no pain.” –Bob Marley

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  My favorite sports teams are any Philadelphia teams. Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, 76ers, Wings, Union, Soul…I love them all!

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   My Grandpop would be the first person I’d invite to dinner. Just to get an hour back with him would mean the world to me. Will Ferrell would be my second choice to dine with. To experience a dinner anything like the one portrayed in Step Brothers would be hilarious to me. Lastly, I’d choose Bob Marley. His music, wisdom, and lifestyle would be a great thing to bring to the dinner table.
