Mary Washington’s Kirkland, Rogers Earn C2C Men's Soccer Players of the Week Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2023 men's soccer season. Mary Washington's Josh Kirkland claimed C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Eagles Freddy Rogers earned C2C Defensive Player of the Week distinction.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh Kirkland, Mary Washington

Josh Kirkland recorded a goal and an assist in No. 2 Mary Washington's Saturday's 2-0 victory over Christopher Newport. With Kirkland's goal, he became at least the fourth member in UMW men's soccer's history to record 100 career points. His score netted the Eagles' game-winner and his feed on UMW's second goal put Saturday's game out of reach for CNU. He recorded four total shots on Saturday -- three of which were on goal. In Wednesday's 1-0 win over Catholic, Kirkland kept up the Eagles' offensive pressure with two more shots.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Freddy Rogers, Mary Washington

In Freddy Rogers' two starts last week, he led No. 2 Mary Washington men's soccer to a 2-0 record, recording shutouts in both victories. The Eagles took down Catholic 1-0 on Wednesday and then Christopher Newport 2-0 on Saturday. In the Catholic win, Rogers recorded two saves. Then followed that up on Saturday with seven saves against the powerful CNU offense. He took part in the Eagles' ninth shutout victory this fall.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Tucker Jahns connected on one of the early goals for UW-Whitewater in the 7-2 route of Knox College. Jahns intercepted a poor clear and turned it into quick points to give the Warhawks an early 2-goal lead. Jahns almost connected on a second shot, but it went just wide left… Salisbury's Gavin Miller netted crucial goal in the closing minutes of Wednesday's 1-0 win over Dickinson, his fourth goal of the year which ties him for the team-lead… Tyler Allred had a goal and assist in both games of L.A. road trip to help UC Santa Cruz win tenth game of year and extend unbeaten streak to seven games. Had the final goal of shutout at La Verne on a steal and run through the defense. Finished with most assists in a season at UCSC since 2010…

Sebastian Carranza scored two goals on the week as Wisconsin-Platteville picked up wins over St. Scholastica and UW-Eau Claire. The sophomore netted a leaping header in the win over the Saints on Tuesday before scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty kick against the Blugolds on Friday night. The goal finished off a come-from-behind win for the Pioneers and helped the team wrap up the regular season with a 12-1-4 record… Adam Kaup was a key part in the UW-Whitewater men's soccer team's route of the visiting Prairie Fire of Knox College. Kaup led the defense which only allowed five shots on goal from the opponent. Kaup's defensive play and throw-in abilities were a huge part of the high scoring game from the Warhawks… UC Santa Cruz's Kian Van der Meer had eight saves in three games to close out regular season. Had a key save in last three minutes at Whittier to help preserve the win. Finished regular season with 45 saves and five shutouts.
