Four CAC Swimmers Advancing To Compete In 2011 NCAA Championships

Four CAC swimmers - including 2011 Athletes of the Year Anna Macedonia of Marymount and Stephen Clendenin of Mary Washington - qualified to compete in the 2011 NCAA Division III championship meet in Knoxville, Tenn.

Joining Macedonia in the women's championship will be St. Mary's sophomore Kelly Heyde.  In the men's competition, Clendenin will be joined by junior teammate Billy Norfolk.

The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships will be held on March 23-26, 2011 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.

Macedonia, a junior, is making her first trip to the national championship event and is seeded 9th in the 200 backstroke, 18th in the 100 backstroke and 36th in the 50 freestyle.

Heyde, the 2010 CAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year, will be making her second-straight trip to the nationals, competing in the 400 IM (seeded 14th), 200 butterfly (seeded 19th) and 200 IM (seeded 23rd).

Clendenin, a 2010 All-American and three-time CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Year, will compete in the 200 and 400 yard individual medley as well as the 200 yard backstroke.  He was also the 2008 CAC Rookie of the Year.

Norfolk, who is advancing to the championships for the first time, will compete in the 500 freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 yard butterfly, a pair of events in which he was undefeated this season.
