INTRODUCING ... St. Mary's Junior Men's Tennis Standout Kyle Feeley

Kyle Feeley is a three-year starter for the St. Mary’s men’s tennis team, which finished second in the CAC regular season standings this year for the first team history.  He boasts a 17-5 singles record this year and has reached double digits in wins in each of his three seasons.  In addition to being a CAC and ITA academic all-star and participating in Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Marine Corps, Feeley has a plan to eliminate the misery of long-suffering Baltimore Orioles fans.  INTRODUCING … SMC junior Kyle Feeley.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?   I began playing tennis when I was around eight years old at a club where my godmother worked.  I took to it right away and tried to play as often as possible.  I was playing many sports at the time so I could not devote too much time to it.  During high school, I became more serious about getting as good as I possibly could at tennis.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major is public policy and the most important thing I have learned in this discipline is that there is always more to a political issue than what appears on the surface.

What is your favorite spot on campus?   My favorite spot on campus is the waterfront because it encompasses much of the appeal of going to St. Mary's.  That is, either lying around enjoying the scenic view or participating in many different water activities.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place to visit?   I enjoy going to the beach because I can kick back and relax as well as go kayaking in the ocean.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?   I am in a political science club and I am participating in Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.   The most memorable experience during my collegiate athletic career is when we beat Salisbury University, one of our rivals, for the first time in my years here.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?   An important issue is laziness because many college students would rather sit on a couch and watch TV than go outside and have fun or go the extra mile academically that will separate them from their peers.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?   If I could change any one item in the world, it would be for the Baltimore Orioles to have a winning team because professional baseball is my favorite sport to go and watch in person.  The Orioles have been terrible and below .500 my entire life which makes me feel like I lost a piece of my childhood.  Once I am a multi-millionaire, I will buy the team with a group of investors and actually spend money on the roster and make the team better.  Soon enough they will be competing with the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  The most influential person in my life, other than my family members, is my high school tennis coach and physics teacher Mr. Tom Hughes.  He really took me under his wing and tried to explain what is important in life and set an example of how to properly live.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is watching live sporting events (basketball, football, tennis, etc.) because I think sports can teach you a great deal about life and give insight into the type of person someone is.

What is your favorite source of information (TV, books, magazines, website, friends in dining hall, etc.)?   Friends are my favorite source of information because they always exaggerate and make the information more exciting.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?   Work hard.  Play hard.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?   Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, my favorite sports team is the Baltimore Ravens because they’re the hometown team and I love going to the games.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?  Three people that I’d like to have dinner with are Abraham Lincoln, Genghis Khan, and Ron Paul.  I would like to have dinner with Abraham Lincoln to ask him how to fix the current state of politics and I would like to learn about the art of war and conquering from Genghis Khan.  From Ron Paul, I would like to soak in all his knowledge on free markets/free men.
