Christopher Newport Senior David Reed Collects CAC Men's Tennis Weekly Award

Christopher Newport senior David Reed collected CAC Player of the Week accolades after going 2-0 against regionally-ranked Washington & Lee in the Captains' 8-1 victory. At No. 1 singles, Reed defeated the No. 5 singles player in the Atlantic South in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. In doubles, he teamed with Justin Cerny for an 8-4 triumph over the No. 8 doubles tandem in the region. Reed moved up to sixth all-time at CNU in doubles victories with his 57th win, and is also just shy of the top 10 all-time in career singles victories with 49.

Southern Virginia freshman Paul Monson was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this year after going 3-0 in both singles and doubles in a 2-1 week for the Knights, who locked up the No. 4 seed in the CAC Tournament. In a 5-4 win over Hampden-Sydney, Monson recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles with Ben Spencer. In a 5-4 defeat to Salisbury, he moved up to the No. 1 singles position and earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win, while again teaming with Spencer for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Monson wrapped up the week with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-1 No. 2 doubles victory vs. Penn State Harrisburg.

Christopher Newport senior Justin Cerny was selected as the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this year after winning all four of his matches as the Captains went 2-0 and secured the No. 2 seed in this year's CAC Tournament. Against Salisbury, Cerny downed Ian Siew at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-3) and paired with David Reed for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles against Siew and Colt Williamson. Against St. Mary's, Cerny played at No. 1 singles, beating Jon Gorel (6-0, 6-1) and also paired with James Baron for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Gorel and Ethan Garren. He moved up to second all-time in career doubles victories at CNU and is now tied for eighth in singles wins.

Mary Washington junior Matt Miles was tabbed as the CAC Player of the Week for the second time this year after registering a 2-1 singles mark and 2-0 doubles mark last week for the Eagles, with his only loss coming to the second-ranked singles player in the nation. In a victory over Southern Virginia, Miles notched wins at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1) and No. 1 doubles (8-4). In a victory against Salisbury, Miles won 7-6(7-4), 6-3 at No. 1 singles. He then secured a No. 2 doubles win along with Moses Hutchison against ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon, improving to 17-7 on the year in doubles, including six straight victories. His only loss of the week came against CMU at No. 1 singles, falling 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 to Daniel Levine, the second-ranked singles player in Division III.

Salisbury sophomore Patrick MacLean was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after picking up two victories in the Sea Gulls' 9-0 win against St. Mary's. MacLean won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, with playing partner Matthew Ryan, before winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Mary Washington sophomore Joseph Brown was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after helping the 16th-ranked Eagles to a perfect 4-0 week, including a 3-0 mark against CAC opponents, as he went 4-0 in singles play. Brown defeated Josh Leiner of 20th-ranked Bates at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-4, 6-3, and then topped Sam Innerst of York at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, on Saturday. On Sunday, Brown defeated Pranoy Banka of Penn State Harrisburg, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2, and then beat Andy Mason of 36th-ranked CNU, 6-3, 6-3, to cap an undefeated weekend.

Christopher Newport senior Justin Cerny was named the CAC Player of the Week after going 2-0 in singles and doubles in wins over Centre and Virginia Wesleyan. Against Centre, Cerny paired with David Reed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Then, with Reed out against Virginia Wesleyan, Cerny slotted down to No. 2 doubles with William Trang for an 8-1 win and moved up to No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win for his first win at No. 1 this year.

Southern Virginia freshman Paul Monson secured CAC Player of the Week honors after posting 2-0 marks in both singles and doubles in a pair of wins for the Knights over West Virginia State and Ferrum. Playing at No. 5 singles vs. West Virginia State and No. 2 singles vs. Ferrum, Monson did not drop a single game in either match with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. At No. 3 doubles, he posted a 6-3 victory against West Virginia State and a 8-2 win against Ferrum.

Salisbury freshman Stefan Hein earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after posting a 2-0 mark in singles play last week, including a win over the 47th-ranked player in the nation from Johns Hopkins. Against Hopkins, Hein played at the No. 3 singles spot and won 0-6, 6-4, 10-6 against Cody Kim, who is ranked No. 47 nationally and No. 10 in the Atlantic South region. Hein also contributed a singles point in the Sea Gulls' 8-1 CAC victory over Frostburg State, earning a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.

Salisbury sophomore Ian Siew was named the CAC Player of the Week after winning all eight matches he has played through a 5-0 start to the season for the Sea Gulls. Siew has won three of his singles matches at the No. 2 position, winning twice in straight sets (6-3, 6-0 & 6-1, 6-4), while going to three sets once for a 6-0, 4-6, 10-2 win. At No. 1 singles against Virginia Wesleyan, he claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory. All four of his doubles vicotires came at the No. 2 spot along with classmate Matthew Ryan. The duo secured doubles wins with scores of 8-2, 8-2, 8-3, and 8-6.

Mary Washington junior Matt Miles earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after going a perfect 4-0 to open the season as UMW hosted its annual Kickoff Classic with NC Wesleyan. Miles defeated Sebastian Sikh in flight one by a 6-3, 7-5 score, and then topped Ioannis Brokakis, 7-6, 6-3. In doubles, he teamed with Michael Fleming to down Sikh and J.D. Telles, 9-7, before topping Sikh and Iyer, 9-8.
