UMW’s Charan Shankar, CNU’s Weis Earn C2C Tennis Player of the Week Accolades

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Mary Washington senior Rishi Charan Shankar claimed C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport junior Raine Weis earned C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week accolades.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rishi Charan Shankar, Mary Washington

Regionally-ranked senior Rishi Charan Shankar led the well-balanced Eagles, ranked #37 in the nation, to a pair of 8-1 victories to open the 2024 spring semester on Saturday. He and Peter Leese gained a pair of doubles wins at number one, including an 8-4 win over Washington College, and an 8-1 win over Averett. He also scored a 7-5, 6-2 win at one singles over WC's Karl Hoegstedt.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Raine Weis, Christopher Newport

Weis won both of her matches as the Captains secured a 7-2 win over N.C. Wesleyan ... Defeated Cristina Mendoza Romero and Elisa Mariotti at No. 1 doubles with partner Tessa Trate by a score of 8-4 ... Then captured a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Mariotti

WOMEN: Sweden Van Houten, UC Santa Cruz; Addison Felts, Mary Washington; Sarah Cooper, Salisbury


C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Ashton Legum won both of his matches as Christopher Newport shut out Goucher this week ... Paired with Edvard Porsmyr Hansen for an 8-1 win over Angel Cerpa and Benedikt Rummel at No. 2 doubles ...Surrendered just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gabe Naftoly at No. 3 singles… Salisbury's Jhayden Pappas went 4-0 from the top singles and doubles positions against Catholic and Shenandoah during the weekend. Pappas and Gianluca Beaujon easily won a pair of first doubles tilts, while Pappas won his two singles matches by a combined margin of 25-13… UC Santa Cruz's Sweden Van Houten had the match-clinching singles win at number six in both duals this weekend, giving the Banana Slugs road wins against George Fox and Pacific.  Went 1-1 at No. 2 doubles… Mary Washington freshman Addison Felts opened her first spring season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Piper Sartison of Washington College at number one singles in #27 Mary Washington's 7-2 victory over the Shorewomen on Saturday… Salisbury's Sarah Cooper won all four of her matches during the weekend against Catholic and Shenandoah. She combined to win third singles by a 24-6 aggregate margin while teaming up with Lily Muir to win second doubles twice.
