UMW’s Charan Shankar, Felts Collect C2C Tennis Player of the Week Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Mary Washington senior Rishi Charan Shankar was named C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Eagles freshman Addison Felts captured C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rishi Charan Shankar, Mary Washington

Senior Rishi Charan Shankar won two singles matches and two doubles matches, to remain undefeated in both, as #37 Mary Washington defeated #23 Kenyon College and Stevens Institute on Saturday. Playing at one, Charan Shankar, ranked 38th in the nation in singles, defeated Rishil Kondapaneni of Kenyon, 7-5, 6-2, and Aashi Kulakarni of Stevens, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, tenth ranked Charan Shankar and Peter Leese defeated Olof Persson and Aashi Kulakarni, 8-5, and Eliezer Gonzalez and Paulo Pocasangre, 8-7 (7).


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Addison Felts, Mary Washington

Freshman Addison Felts won three of four matches this weekend for #27 Mary Washington, as the Eagles split a pair of matches against Vassar and #23 Swarthmore. Felts kicked off the weekend by teaming with Emily Beckner for an 8-4 win at two doubles against Vassar. She then claimed a pair of wins against Swarthmore in a 6-3 defeat, scoring an 8-1 win at two doubles with Beckner, and adding UMW's lone singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at three singles.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Gianluca Beaujon won all four of his top-flight matches against Virginia Wesleyan and Goucher during the weekend. On Saturday against VWU he teamed up with Jhayden Pappas to breeze past the Marlins' first doubles team, 8-4, before earning a sweep (6-1, 6-4) in second singles. On Sunday against Goucher he and Pappas rolled through first doubles, 8-2, and Beaujon then earned a straight-sets victory (6-1, 6-1) in first singles… Vincent Truong helped Christopher Newport defeat nationally-ranked Haverford 8-1 with a pair of wins and then also added a singles win in a narrow 5-4 loss to nationally-ranked Washington and Lee ... First, he paired with Nesh Kumaresan for an 8-5 doubles win at No. 1 against the Fords; then, in singles play he added a 6-2, 7-5 win over Marko Arboleda at No. 2 singles ... Versus Washington and Lee, ranked No. 32 in the nation, he and Kumaresan dropped an 8-5 decision in doubles but he rebounded for a three-set winner at No. 2 singles against Will Kistler (3-6, 6-1, 6-3)… Christopher Newport's Tessa Trate suffered a pair of losses against No. 25 Washington and Lee before bouncing back to sweep her opponents against No. 20 Denison ... Playing at No. 1 doubles, she and partner Raine Weis earned a dominant 8-3 win against the Big Red before she also cruised to a near shutout win at No. 2 singles ... Trate defeated Caroline Kittle (6-1, 6-0) ... In the nationally-ranked showdown against W&L, Trate also stretched her opponent, 37th-ranked Gabi Moss, to a second-set tiebreaker before succumbing to a 6-3, 7-6 (4) defeat.
