SU’s Suri and Muir Earn C2C Tennis Player of the Week Accolades

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Salisbury freshman Gurv Suri was named C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Sea Gulls senior Lily Muir captured C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gurv Suri, Salisbury

Suri won all four of his matches for the week. On Wednesday against Washington College, he teamed up with Caleb Brightman to win second doubles (6-3) and pulled out a three-set win in fourth singles (6-0, 2-6, 6-3). On Sunday against York, Suri rolled in second doubles with Brightman (8-3) and earned an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory playing in first singles for the first time.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lily Muir, Salisbury

Muir won 5-of-6 matches for the Sea Gulls during their three dual-match victories on the week. On Wednesday at Washington College she won second doubles with Sarah Cooper (8-4) and cruised in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) in fourth singles. On Saturday against Stevens, Muir rebounded to take a tough No. 4 singles victory (0-6, 6-4, 6-2). Then on Sunday against York, Muir dominated third doubles with Ridgley Lake (8-3) and pulled out a 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 11-9 triumph in second singles.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

In California, Christopher Newport sophomore Vincent Truong went 2-0 to help the Captains defeat Whittier. Truong and Nesh Kumaresan won 8-5 against Ahmed Amer and Julius Clasen in No. 1 doubles before the CNU sophomore captured a three-set win against Clasen at No. 2 singles (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6))… UC Santa Cruz's Chloe Wu won team's only doubles match on Saturday against Division II-bound Menlo College. She then shook off an early injury to win at No. 3 singles in straight sets. It was the first-year's fourth dual singles win in a row this spring… Tessa Trate helped Christopher Newport go 2-1 on the Captains' spring break trip to Florida, including a 9-0 shutout against No. 36 RPI. She won two of her three doubles and two of her three singles matches during the week. Her lone loss in singles came to 10th-ranked Danna Taylor and Trate forced a third-set tiebreaker against the All-American opponent (6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4). In her two wins, Trate downed Lorna Flores Gonzalez (RPI) in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) and Natalie Bassett (NCC) in straight sets (7-6, 6-2). In doubles play, Tessa paired with Raine Weis to capture a hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) win over RPI's Nicole Ridenour and Flores Gonzalez and also defeated North Central's Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett by a score of 8-5. In the tandem's lone loss of the week, 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon's top pair of Danna Taylor and Zoe Angell edged out the CNU duo by a score of 8-7 (7-3).
