UMW’s Leese, SU’s Beaujon Capture C2C Tennis Player of the Week Laurels

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Mary Washington senior Peter Leese was named C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Salisbury freshman Gibelle Beaujon captured C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Peter Leese, Mary Washington

Leese turned in a perfect 4-0 record, as 29th ranked Mary Washington defeated conference foe Salisbury as well as #19 Washington & Lee on the road this week. On Thursday, Leese teamed with Rishi Charan Shankar at one doubles to down Gianluca Beaujon/Jhayden Pappas, 8-1, and then Leese gained a 6-0, 6-1 win at four singles as the Eagles cruised to an 8-1 team win. On Sunday, Leese led UMW to a 5-4 upset over Washington & Lee, teaming with Charan Skankar for an 8-7 win at one doubles, and gaining a 6-4, 6-4 win at five singles as UMW edged the Generals on the road.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gibelle Beaujon, Salisbury

Beaujon won both of her top-flight matches on Friday against Virginia Wesleyan. She bested the Marlins' Tuva Flink (6-2, 6-1) in first singles before teaming up with Olivia Hall to win top doubles (8-4).

MEN: Ashton Legum, Christopher Newport

WOMEN: Natalie Sprenger, UC Santa Cruz


C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Christopher Newport's Ashton Legum went 2-0 in singles play this week while playing at No. 4 singles. He earned the lone team point for the Captains in an 8-1 loss to N.C. Wesleyan when he defeated Albert Sitwell (6-4, 6-7, 1-0). Then, in a 7-2 win against Centre, he defeated Bo Bush (7-5, 6-4). In doubles, Legum was 0-2 with an 8-6 loss and an 8-4 loss… UC Santa Cruz's Natalie Sprenger won at No. 3 singles on Sunday at Division II Dominican in straight sets, tying the dual match at 2-2.  Sprenger and Sara Beckman dropped the top doubles match in the loss.
