CNU’s Truong, UMW’s Hagino Collect C2C Tennis Player of the Week Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Christopher Newport sophomore Vincent Truong was named C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Mary Washington senior Amanda Hagino earned C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week acclaim.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vincent Truong, Christopher Newport

Truong was one of four Captains to win both matches against Shenandoah on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles with partner Nesh Kumaresan against Kieth Orr and Artem Babaiev. He also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Jovan Cirkovic.  The Captains won their third straight match and improved to 8-3 overall while ranked No. 35 in the nation.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Amanda Hagino, Mary Washington

Hagino led #23 Mary Washington to a pair of wins this week to improve to 6-5 on the season. She opened the week against #48 Gustavus Adolphus by teaming with Hana Kimmey at one doubles for an 8-2 victory, and then provided a 6-4, 6-3 win at one singles over Allison Szalay in a 6-3 UMW win. Then on Friday against Haverford, Hagino teamed with Kimmey for an 8-5 win at one doubles, and won at one singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Abbey Russano.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Jhayden Pappas won two top-flight matches on Wednesday against St. Mary's (Md.). In first singles he outlasted Boris Palmade for a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory. In first doubles, Pappas and Gianluca Beaujon earned an 8-5 victory… UC Santa Cruz's Benjamin Wang went 2-0 in singles with one unfinished match over recent Los Angeles road trip. The Ventura native won in straight sets at Cal Lutheran as part of 6-3 win over rival Kingsmen… Salisbury's Olivia Hall went 2-1 in singles during the week with her only loss coming to Division I Towson. On Wednesday against St. Mary's (Md.) she won second singles 6-0, 6-1. On Saturday at Goucher, Hall was elevated to first singles and earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Hall also went 1-1 in first doubles with Gibelle Beaujon, beating Goucher 8-3 on Saturday… UC Santa Cruz's Sara Beckman went 2-0 at No. 1 with straight set wins at Whittier and No. 50 Chapman. Also teamed with Nat Sprenger at No. 1 doubles to go 2-0, helping UC Santa Cruz to highest national ranking since 2011… Christopher Newport's Tessa Trate won both of her matches to help clinch a 6-3 win over No. 25 Haverford this week. Trate paired with Raine Weis for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles before earning a straight-set win at No. 2 singles over Ellie Esterowitz (7-5, 6-4). The Captains won their fourth straight and sixth match in the last seven to improve to 8-4 on the season.
