CNU’s Porsmyr Hansen and Weis Named C2C Tennis Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 11th week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Christopher Newport's Edvard Porsmyr Hansen claimed C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, while the Captains Raine Weis was tabbed C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Edvard Porsmyr Hansen, Christopher Newport

Porsmyr Hansen won all four of his matches this week including wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles ... First, against 30th-ranked Salisbury, Porsmyr Hansen paired with Ashton Legum for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles ... He then captured a 6-2, 6-0 win against Gianluca Beaujon at No. 2 singles ... Against Marymount, he moved up to No. 1 in both singles and doubles and paired up for an 8-4 win in doubles and captured an 8-2 win at singles against Nicolas Stromberg (MU).


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Raine Weis, Christopher Newport

Raine won both of her matches against Marymount this weekend ... First, she paired with Tessa Trate for an 8-1 win against Fabienne Fritz and Sofia Lucero to capture the tandem's 32nd career win at No. 1 doubles ... With a 41-18 all-time doubles record, the duo ranks eighth in career winning percentage as a pair ... Weis also went on to earn an 8-1 win over Fritz at No. 1 singles and ranks eighth all-time in singles wins at No. 1 with 19.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

UC Santa Cruz's Andrew Tjoa had a pair of wins on his Senior Day home finale against Division II-bound William Jessup. After an 8-2 win at doubles with Adam Hidas he closed the match with an exciting 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles… Mary Washington senior Rishi Charan Shankar won three of four matches this week, as the #21 Eagles dropped a pair of matches to nationally ranked opponents. He gained a doubles win with Peter Leese at one in a 7-2 loss to #24 North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday, 8-3. On Saturday in a 6-3 loss to #18 Johns Hopkins, Charan Shankar teamed with Leese for an 8-6 win at one. He then topped Daniel Ardila, 6-4, 7-5, at one singles… Natalie Sprenger had a pair of wins as UC Santa Cruz closed regular season with 9-0 sweep over Jessup. Won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles with partner Sara Beckman before a 6-0, 6-2 win in singles for her eighth win of the spring.
