Hood's Chris DiGangi And Salisbury's Chris Barnard Named To Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team

Hood College senior Chris DiGangi and Salisbury University senior Chris Barnard were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field Team.

To be considered for the Capital One Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

DiGangi and Barnard will advance on for consideration on the Capital One Academic All-America® national ballot.  To view the 2012 All-District teams, click here.

DiGangi, a pole vault specialist, is a four-time Capital Athletic Conference pole vault champion who hails from Brick, N.J. He racked up three outdoor crowns in the pole vault at the 2009, 2010 and 2012 championships and won his signature event at the conference's inaugural indoor championship meet this past February. DiGangi holds school records in the pole vault (14' 7") and the high jump (5' 10") and is tied for the CAC's top mark in the pole vault with Salisbury's Kris Greenwell's effort from 2004.

DiGangi, who was also named to the Academic All-District second team in 2010, received his undergraduate degree from Hood in mathematics on May 19. He was also selected as the 2012 Hood College Most Outstanding Senior Male Student-Athlete.

Barnard carries a 3.37 GPA as a triple major in computer science, mathematics and psychology. As a four-year member of the cross country and track & field teams, the Olney, Md., native has earned nine All-Capital Athletic Conference awards. This season he claimed a win and first-team CAC honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and second-team in the 5,000-meter run.
