Christopher Newport Men, Salisbury Women Grab Day One Lead at CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

At the conclusion of day one of the CAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Christopher Newport's Pomoco Stadium, Christopher Newport holds the lead on the men's side, while Salisbury sits atop the standings on the women's side. 

The CNU men captured two individual crowns to total 58 points following the first five events of the championships. Salisbury sits in second at 32 points, followed by York (29), Mary Washington (24), and Frostburg State (12). 

The Salisbury women (48) hold a slight edge in the team standings over Christopher Newport (42), followed by Mary Washington (36), Wesley (12), York (9) and Frostburg State (8). 

Mary Washington's Nicholas Judy set a new CAC record in the pole vault at 15'-3.50", while another record fell in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. Salisbury's Luke Campbell crossed the line in 14.05 in the 110 hurdles, setting a new CAC mark. 

Others claiming titles for the men were Frostburg State's Robert Davis in the hammer throw York's Tim Hartung in the 10,000 meters, and CNU's Dominque Torres and Richard Roethel in the triple jump and javelin, respectively. 

Several records fell on the women's side as well, with Mary Washington's Claire Harrington setting a new meet record in the pole vault (11'-1.75"), Enuma Ezenwa posting a new CAC mark in the 100 hurdle prelims (14.69), and new championship meet records by CNU's Leah Richardson in the 200 meter prelims (25.08) and Mary Washington's Natalie Young in the 10,000 finals (39:19.68). 

Other gold medalists for the women included Salisbury's Shannon Gilligan (javelin), Christopher Newport's Jennifer Westerholm (triple jump), and Mary Washington's Elysa Baker (hammer throw). 

The CAC Championships resume tomorrow at CNU's Pomoco Stadium with action beginning at 10:30 a.m.
