York's Tim Hartung Earns All-America Honors in 10,000 Meters at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships; Christopher Newport's Richard Roethel Sits in 2nd in Decathlon

Thursday's Results 

York senior Tim Hartung secured All-America honors in the 10,000 meters and Christopher Newport senior Richard Roethel sits in second place halfway through the decathlon to highlight Thursday's action from CAC competitors at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Delaware, Ohio. 

Hartung crossed in eighth place with a time of 31:29.48 to nab All-America recognition in the 10,000 for the second straight year, while CNU's Roethel totaled 3,690 points throughout the opening five events of the decathlon.

Roethel trails only Wisc. Eau Claire's Brandon Zarnoth (3,737) following day one. His top finishes came in the high jump (2nd), shot put (4th) and 100 meters (6th). The decathlon concludes on Friday with the 100m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.  

Additionally, two individuals and a relay squad from the CAC advanced to their respective finals with strong preliminary finishes on Thursday. 

Salisbury sophomore Luke Campbell posted the top time in the prelims of the 400 hurdles, while junior teammate Devon Hopkins narrowly missed out on the cut with an 11th-place mark. The 400 hurdles finals are set for Saturday at 4:10 p.m. 

Christopher Newport senior Jessica McClelland made her way into the 1500 meter finals, grabbing the 12th and last spot in the finals with a mark of 4:37.21. The 1500 finals are slated for Saturday at 2 p.m. 

The Wesley men's 4x100 relay team of Patrick Schlosser, DaJahn Lowery, Markael Jenkins and Johnny Crenshaw took fourth in the prelims with a mark of 40.98. The quartet will compete in the finals on Saturday at 1:50 p.m. 

CNU junior Enuma Ezenwa and sophomore Jennifer Westerholm opened up competition in the hepathlon, with Ezenwa in ninth and Westerholm in 17th following day one. Friday's heptathlon events are the long jump, javelin and 800m. 

Also competing in Thursday's opening day were Wesley freshman Kameko Webb in the long jump (14th), Salisbury junior Tyler Austin in the 200 meters (19th), the Wesley men's 4x400 relay (13th) and the Christopher Newport women's 4x400 team (10th). 

Action continues tomorrow at 1 p.m.
