Host York Posts Top Men's And Women's Team Scores Among CAC Teams In The Coach Achtzehn Cross Country Classic

York College posted the top team scores in both the men's and women's meets at the 2010 Coach Achtzehn Classic cross country meet Saturday.

In the women's team standings, York (74) finished third, followed by CAC rivals St. Mary's (5th, 115), Hood (7th, 187) and Stevenson (9th, 210).  Individually, SMC's Shannon Rafferty placed fourth overall to lead all CAC runners, covering the 5K course in 20:14.82.  YCP's Mandy Parshall (7th) was the only other CAC runner among the top 10 overall finishers.

In the men's chase, YCP (54), St. Mary's (99) and Hood (124) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, while Stevenson (138) tied for sixth place.  St. Mary's sophomore Nick Pasko, who finished fourth overall (27:33.66) on the 8K course, edged YCP freshman Tim Hartung (5th) by eight seconds to be the first CAC runner across the finish line.  YCP's Andrew Friesema (7th) and Steve Childress (10th) also finished among the top 10 overall in the chase.

The Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams made a strong impression Saturday as each team finished near the top of the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.

The women's team finished in sixth place while the men placed seventh.  Junior Becca Stinner paced the women's team with a 22nd-place finish in a time of 18:53.  In the men's chase, senior Chris Barnard led the way with a 22nd-place individual finish with a time of 25:22.

The Frostburg State men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Dickinson Long-Short Course Invitational Saturday afternoon. Although team scores were not immediately available, many Bobcats made strong individual showings.

The Frostburg State women's team competed in the 6k long course. Junior Anne Patron led Bobcat runners with her 28th place finish (24:38).  The men competed in both the 4k short course and the longer 8k variety. On the short side, freshman Charles Jacobs led Bobcat runners with a 90th place finish (13:45).  In the 8k long race, junior Gavin Caupp led the way for the Bobcats with a 44th place finish (27:57).
