Tom Fisher Resumes Role as Head Cross Country Coach at St. Mary’s

It was announced Tuesday by Scott Devine, Director of Athletics and Recreation at St. Mary's College of Maryland, that Tom Fisher has resumed his role as head coach of the Seahawk men's and women's cross country programs.

Fisher was the first mentor for the cross country programs when the teams received varsity status in 2009, helping to build the programs from the ground up and repeating as the head coach in 2010. He relinquished the reins at the end of the 2010-11 academic year to focus on his growing family; however, Fisher has not stayed far from cross country, spending the last two seasons (2011 and 2012) as an assistant coach.

Devine expressed, "Tom Fisher has been with our men's and women's cross country programs since their inception four years ago when he served as our first head coach of the program. Tom stepped away from the head coaching role in 2010 with the birth of his second child, yet has remained a key contributor to the program in an assistant coaching role."

In his two seasons at the helm of the Seahawk men's cross country team, St. Mary's finished in the top-five in back-to-back Capital Athletic Conference championships with a pair of fourth-place finishes. On the women's side, the Seahawks finished middle of the pack in back-to-back Capital Athletic Conference championships with a fifth-place finish in 2009 and sixth in 2010.

He is an avid tri-athlete who competes in several triathlons along the East Coast each year such as the Kinetic Half Ironman.

The Wappingers Falls, N.Y. native originally came aboard the St. Mary's athletics and recreation staff in November of 2007 as the director of the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center (MPOBARC), a position that he will retain as he once again takes over the cross country teams.

Devine concluded, "This is a positive move for our cross country teams and for the Department, as I am fully confident that Coach Fisher will continue to build both of the programs while leading with a steady hand. He will also remain in the role of overseeing the daily operations of The Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center."
