Christopher Newport Takes Fourth at South/Southeast NCAA Men's Cross Country Regional Championships; Four From CAC Earn All-Region

Christopher Newport placed fourth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional to highlight the CAC men's cross country teams performances at regional championships on Saturday, while four CAC runners earned All-Region recognition with top-35 finishes. 

CNU and Mary Washington competed at the South/Southeast Regional in Rome, Ga., while Salisbury, York, St. Mary's, Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg competed at the Mideast Regional in Newville, Pa.

Christopher Newport took fourth with 165 points, behind only team champion Emory (62), Bridgewater (Va.) (65), and Centre (110). JJ LaPointe, William Rabil and Grayson Reid each earn All-Region to pace the Captains. LaPointe led the way in 21st place at 26:09.96, while Rabil also grabbed a top-25 finish, claiming 24th at 26:25.14. Reid placed 31st (26:36.38) while Jeffrey Dover nabbed 43rd (26:58.80). 

Mary Washington secured a top-10 team finish in the 28-team field, taking ninth with 276 points. Ben Sorensen led the Eagles in 40th at 26:54.24, followed by Julian Menk in 42nd (26:57.00), James Van Emmerick (52nd/27:11.20) and Chris Anderson (63rd/27:22.58).

CAC individual champion Thomas Burke of Salisbury led the CAC Champion Sea Gulls to the top team finish at the Mid-East Regional, as the Sea Gulls took 10th in the 47-team field with 327 points. York was the next-best CAC finisher in 14th with 400 points, followed by St. Mary's in 26th (808), Frostburg State in 38th (1126) and Penn State Harrisburg in 40th (1,158).

Burke was the top CAC finisher at the meet, placing 29th out of the 343 individuals with a time of 25:51.2 to take All-Region accolades. Teammate Brandon Horning crossed 57th at 26:18.5, wile Eric Wood (77th/26:50.0), George Martinez (78th/26:50.1) and Ben Meister (87th/26:55.0) also secured top-100 finishes.

York was led by Matthew Hayes in 68th at 26:36.5, Wil Murray in 75th at 26:46.7, Grant Dell in 84th at 26:52.7, Ryan Aug in 86th at 26:57.5 and Michael Stetson in 89th at 25:55.5. 

Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 90 points, followed by Widener (115) and Johns Hopkins (119) in the top three.
