Christopher Newport Men's Cross Country Secures CNU Invitational Title

CAC men's cross country teams ran their final tune-ups on Saturday in preparation for the CAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. Christopher Newport headlined the day by capturing the team title at its own invitational. 

In the program's first home meet of the season, Christopher Newport captured the CNU Invitational title with a score of 32, which edged out York by three to seal the team championship. Samuel Martin was the top competitor for the men's team after the senior came in sixth in Division III and 13th among all runners. Martin cruised to a time of 26:40.9 in the 8k. 

York split its squad on Saturday, sending a group to the CNU Invitational and a group to the Gettysburg Invitational. At CNU, the Spartans finished second in the five-team field with 35 points. Freshman Grant Dell paced the Spartans as he finished fourth overall, clocking in at 26:36.8.  At Gettysburg, freshman Ryan Aug was the Spartans top finisher with a time of 27:05.7, good for 33rd place in the 355-runner field. 

Also at CNU, Southern Virginia placed third, led by a personal best 8k time from freshman Michael Myers. Myers finished in 26:22.5 to take third among Division III runners and seventh overall. 

At the Hood College Open Invitational, St. Mary's placed second and Frostburg State claimed fifth. 

St. Mary's notched five top-15 finishes as the Seahawks repeated as the runner-up at the Hood Invitational. This was the team's third top-3 finish this season. Senior Tim Carey paced St. Mary's to the second-place finish with his sixth-place finish (5th – adjusted) in 27:19.5. 

For Frostburg State, freshman Brad Baker was the team's top finisher for the third-straight meet. Baker captured 17th place in 28:30.2. 

Along with York, Salisbury and Penn State Harrisburg also competed at Gettysburg. Salisbury tied for third with 142 points, paced by junior Thomas Burke, who finished in 14th with a time of 26:21.8. Burke has led the Sea Gull men in three events this season, marking the most on the team.

Penn State Harrisburg finished 28th of 34 teams at the Gettysburg Invitational. The Blue and White men's team were led by Nick Sturm, who finished 139th overall with a time of 28:48, which is his second best time of the season. 

Mary Washington placed 12th among 18 schools at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday. Julian Menk was the Eagles' top finisher in 60th place at 27:37. 

On Friday, Wesley finished sixth in a field consisting of only Division I schools at the Delaware State Invitational. Freshman Luis Arteaga paced the Wolverines with a 29:53.8 on the 8kcourse.
