Salisbury's Grossi, Sisson Sweep C2C Cross Country Weekly Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the start of the 2023 cross country season. Salisbury's Matt Grossi earned C2C Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolades, while the Sea Gulls Madi Sisson claimed C2C Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.


MEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Matt Grossi, Salisbury

Matt Grossi broke the tape for the first time in his collegiate career at the Salisbury Fall Classic on Saturday, winning in a personal-best time of 25:20.8. The mark was the eighth-fastest for an SU runner at Winter Place Park since 2006.


WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Madi Sisson, Salisbury

Madi Sisson set a new personal record of 22:31.1 to finish in fifth place at the Salisbury Fall Classic on Saturday.  The sophomore was one of four Sea Gull women's runners to crack the top 10.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Daniel Ferrante posted Christopher Newport's top time in the 6k during the Spider Alumni Open on Saturday. During the meet, he finished the race in 19:25.2 at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia. That placed him 55th overall in a field that included nine Division I programs, including No. 10 Virginia…UC Santa Cruz's Camden Jaureguy led the Banana Slugs with a time of 25:42.4 at the University of San Francisco Invite, placing 58th out of 170 runners in his college debut…Freshman Nicholas Smerlis was Mary Washington's top finisher at the University of Richmond Alumni Open, finishing in 50th place on the 6K course at 19:20…During the Spider Alumni Open on Saturday, Christopher Newport's Courtney Mudd posted the top time by a Division III competitor in the 4k. Kicking off her collegiate career, the freshman finished the race in 16:03.7 at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia. That was four seconds faster than the second-best Division III runner and placed her 83rd overall in a field that featured 12 Division I schools, including nationally-ranked Virginia and Georgetown…Elena Stanciu led the UC Santa Cruz placing 58th out of over 160 runners at the San Francisco Invitational. Running against ten Division I teams, Stanciu finished in 22:46.8. That was the seventh-best time ever for a first-year runner in school history and the best time ever for a UCSC runner at Golden Gate Park…Christina Sancho-Spore was the top finisher for Pratt in their season opener at the Adelphi Invite leading Pratt to an eighth-place finish and third among Division III teams. She was the 5th Division III harrier across the line covering the 5K course in 20:29.9, 16th overall.
