UC Santa Cruz’s Jackson, Martel-Phillips Claim C2C Cross Country Athletes of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its 2023 cross country weekly awards. UC Santa Cruz's Eric Jackson was named C2C Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while the Banana Slugs Riley Martel-Phillips received C2C Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week acclaim.


MEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Eric Jackson, UC Santa Cruz

The senior led UC Santa Cruz with a time of 24:35.9 at the UC Riverside Invitational (8K), placing 54th out of over 200 in a field mostly of Division I and II competitors.


WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Riley Martel-Phillips, UC Santa Cruz

The senior led the Banana Slugs with a time of 21:17.8 at the UC Riverside Invite to place 32nd. The time was a personal best by 21 seconds and was the second-fastest 6K in program history.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Matt Grossi secured the top finish for Salisbury at the CNU Invitational on Friday by crossing 19th in 25:41.0… Daniel Ferrante posted Christopher Newport's top time in the 8k during the CNU Invitational on Friday at Lee Hall Mansion. During the race, he finished in 26:37.3, which placed him 36th in the field and helped the Captains come in third among Division III programs in the final team standings… Freshman Nicholas Smerlis led Mary Washington to a second place finish at Longwood on Saturday, as he finished fourth overall at 26:48 on the 8K course…

Anna Bodmer paced Salisbury at the CNU Invitational by cracking the top 15, finishing 14th in 23:32.7 largely against Division I competition… Julia Kapp posted Christopher Newport's top finish at the CNU Invitational on Friday after placing 19th overall in the 6k. She eventually wrapped up the race in 23:47.8 and helped the Captains finish second among Division III programs in the final team standings… Senior Grace Pippin led Mary Washington to a second-place finish at Longwood on Saturday, finishing eighth overall at 21:19 on the 5K course.

Pratt's Christina Sancho-Spore medaled at the Stockton Osprey Open finishing in 10th place, sixth among Division III runners, with a time of 24:09.0 for the 6K course.
