UC Santa Cruz’s Jackson, Martel-Phillips Sweep C2C Cross Country Athletes of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its 2023 cross country weekly awards. UC Santa Cruz's Eric Jackson was named C2C Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while the Banana Slugs Riley Martel-Phillips took home C2C Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.


MEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Eric Jackson, UC Santa Cruz

Senior Eric Jackson finished 16th out of over 400 runners at the Augustana Interregional Invitational in Illinois in 24:55.8, his second sub-25 run of the year. Helped Banana Slugs finish 10th in the 8K event.


WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK: Riley Martel-Phillips, UC Santa Cruz

Senior Riley Martel-Phillips finished 21st in 22:24 at Augustana Interregional Invitational Open 6K in Illinois, helping the Banana Slugs place 7th in the 33-team event.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Daniel Ferrante collected a top-10 finish at the Rowan Interregional Border Battle while starring for Christopher Newport at the Gloucester County Dream Park. During the meet, he placed ninth overall after completing the course in 25:14.1. That marked the third-fastest 8k clocking of his career and his top effort this season by over a full minute… Salisbury's Matt Grossi fought through the adverse weather to finish 15th in the men's championship of the Rowan Border Battle, crossing the 8K course in 25:24.0 and just three seconds off his personal record… Madi Rawlings registered the second-fastest 6k clocking of her career while leading Christopher Newport at Rowan's Inter-Regional Border Battle on Saturday at the Gloucester County Dream Park. During the meet, she completed the race in 22:52.8, which placed her 27th overall. That marked her top performance of the season by over 30 seconds and established a new course PR for the senior standout. It also was the second time in her career in which she broke the 23-minute mark… Madi Sisson led the way for Salisbury in the women's championship of the Rowan Border Battle, missing her personal record by one second by finishing 53rd in 23:32.1.
