2023 C2C Men's and Women's Cross Country Awards Announced

The 2023 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Men's and Women's Cross Country awards have been announced. The following are this year's honorees, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

MEN'S RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Eric Jackson, UC Santa Cruz

Jackson headlined the individual awards for the third straight year after earning All-American honors.  He won the C2C title for the third time with a program record effort (24:05.8).  The senior placed eighth at the NCAA West Regional to lead the Banana Slugs before finishing 40th at the national championships.

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Camden Jaureguy, UC Santa Cruz

Jaureguy earned second team All-C2C honors with a ninth-place finish at the conference championships.  At the USF Invitational, ran the second fastest time ever by a Banana Slug at Golden Gate Park (25:42).

MEN'S SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Sam Bodmer, Salisbury

Bodmer, a biology major and chemistry minor on a pre-medicine track, earned scholar-athlete recognition for the second consecutive year.  He claimed second team All-C2C recognition finishing 14th at the C2C championships.

MEN'S COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: David Klech, UC Santa Cruz

Klech earned coach of the year acclaim for the third straight year.  He led the Banana Slugs to the C2C Championship and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional.


WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Helena Janku, UC Santa Cruz

Janku topped the individual awards after winning the C2C title (21:55.5) and finishing ninth at the NCAA West Regional.  She led the Banana Slugs to a second consecutive NCAA team appearance.  Janku placed 113th at the national championships.

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Elena Stanciu, UC Santa Cruz

Stanciu finished runner-up at the C2C Championships to earn first team All-C2C honors.  She placed 43rd at the West Regional and 229th at the NCAA Championships.

WOMEN'S SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Hanna Hekkanen, UC Santa Cruz

Hekkanen, a plant science and agroecology major, earned first team All-C2C distinction finishing third at the conference championships.  She picked up All-West Region Honors for the first time in her career placing 34th and finished 196th at the national championships.

WOMEN'S COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: David Klech, UC Santa Cruz

Klech captured coach of the year honors for the third consecutive year.  He guided the Banana Slugs to the C2C Championship with a perfect team score of 15 points and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional.  UCSC, who earned an at-large selection, finished 31st at the NCAA Championships.
