Salisbury senior 2B STACEY MALARKEY (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) along with York freshman P/DH BRITTANY THERRES (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) were named the CAC Softball Co-Players of the Week. Malarkey went 5-for-10 and reached base twice when being hit by a pitch to lead the 14th-ranked Sea Gulls to a pair of DH sweeps, extending the conference champions’ win streak to 30 games. Malarkey had five RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and her conference-leading 11th homer of the season. She also leads NCAA Div. III by being hit by a pitch 16 times this season. Therres led York to two wins in four games this week. In a DH sweep vs. DeSales, she went the distance in a 4-1 win, allowing just five hits and no walks while fanning two. In the nightcap, she pitched the final two-thirds of the game to get the save in a 4-3 win. In the twinbill, she was 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, run scored and stolen base. In a DH vs. Messiah, she suffered a 1-0 setback in game one, scattering eight hits and two walks while fanning three in seven innings.

Wesley senior pitcher/DH MEGAN STREET (Bridgeville, Del./Epworth Christian) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .444, hurling a pair of critical victories as the Wolverines won their way into the 2009 CAC playoffs. She tossed her second shutout of the season in a win against Stevenson and added a pitching win Friday at Gallaudet that helped clinch a post-season nod. Offensively, her biggest performance was against Widener, where Street doubled and homered.

Salisbury Sr. OF MEAGHAN O’GARA (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .600 (9-for-15) with two homers, 10 RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases in six wins last week. She jacked a two-run walk-off homer in a weekend showdown against then-second place Mary Washington and went 5-for-5 in a twinbill sweep vs. Stevenson.

Mary Washington senior pitcher KIRSTEN ROWELL (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) and Salisbury junior catcher LAUREN BRENNEMAN (York, Pa./Central York) were each named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for the second time this season after leading their teams last week. Rowell suffered a 1-0 loss to Messiah, but allowed just three hits and no walks while fanning 10. Later in the week, the UMW senior struck out 12 and allowed just one hit and no walks in a win over Gallaudet. Brenneman batted .700 (7-for-10) with two doubles, a triple and a homer, scored eight runs and knocked in nine scores as Salisbury went 4-0 last week, including doubleheader sweeps against CAC rivals Wesley and Hood.

Salisbury sophomore pitcher KELSEY MILLS (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after throwing no-hitters on consecutive days and helping the defending champion Sea Gulls to a 5-0 record. Mills was an error away from a perfect game against SUNY-Plattsburgh, where she fanned nine in a complete-game effort. Later that day, she picked up her first save of the season against 23rd-ranked Ithaca. The following day, Mills struck out a career-high 13 batters and walked just one in a no-hitter against SUNY-Geneseo. She also chipped in a hit and a run scored in two at bats against SUNY-Geneseo. For the week, she threw 15 hitless and scoreless innings and struck out 23.

Mary Washington senior pitcher KIRSTEN ROWELL (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after recording four pitching victories, including two complete-game shutouts, and improving her season record to 9-1 with a 0.70 ERA. In 34 innings this week, Rowell allowed just 16 hits while fanning 61. Rowell allowed three hits in a 2-0 shutout vs. Mary Baldwin and one safety in an 8-0 victory over Wilkes. She also entered the second game of the DH vs. Mary Baldwin trailing 5-0 and fanned 12 as the Eagles rallied for a 6-5 triumph.

Salisbury junior C LAUREN BRENNEMAN (York, Pa./Central York) and York sophomore 3B KELLY SMITH (Riverdale, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) were named the CAC Softball Co-Players of the Week after hitting over .500 for their respective teams. Brenneman went 8-for-17 with team highs of three homers, five RBI and six runs scored during Salisbury’s play in the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast. In a DH sweep over 23rd-ranked Lynchburg Sunday, Brenneman contributed a homer, three runs scored and an RBI. Smith led the 25th-ranked Spartans to a 7-3 record at the Rebel Games during Spring Break in Kissimmee, Fla. She hit .514 (18-for-35) in 10 games with three doubles, five RBI and eight runs scored. She had four three-hit games and another two-hit game while compiling a .600 slugging percentage and a .553 on-base percentage for the Spartans.

York freshman pitcher BRITTANY THERRES (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after throwing a pair of complete-game shutout victories in the Spartans’ season-opening action at the Methodist University Early Bird Tournament. Therres allowed five hits in a 5-0 win over NCAA Division II Goldey-Beacom, then hurled another five-hitter in a 4-0 win over Roanoke. She struck out three and did not surrender a walk in 14 innings.
