Frostburg State Sophomore Caitlyn Lovend Named To Capital One Academic All-America Softball Team
Frostburg State softball sophomore Caitlin
Lovend was named to the 2012 Capital One Division
III Academic All-America Third Team as announced by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
Lovend becomes just the sixth Academic All-American in the history
of the Frostburg State athletic department and the first for FSU's
softball program.
She is the Bobcats' second Academic All-American since FSU joined the Capital Athletic Conference in 2010. She is also the eighth CAC softball player to be honored by CoSIDA.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter of key reserve, carry a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic status at his/her current institution.

Lovend had a standout spring season for the Bobcats and was ranked
nationally in many offensive categories. A 2012 All-Capital
Athletic Conference First Team selection, Lovend led the league in
batting average (.496), RBIs (49), home runs (13), total bases
(109), on-base percentage (.573) and slugging percentage
(.886).
Lovend, the 2011 CAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-CAC
honoree, was just as impressive on a national scale as she is sixth
in the NCAA Division III ranks in home runs, fifth in on-base
percentage, seventh in slugging percentage and ninth in home runs
per game (0.32) and in batting average.
In just two seasons as a Bobcat, Lovend is currently the school's
all-time leader in career batting average (.453) and slugging
percentage (.804). She is second all-time in school history with 21
career home runs, fourth with 79 RBIs and fifth in total bases
(181), walks (45) and putouts (462). This spring, Lovend set FSU
single-season marks in RBIs (49) and hits (61).
Off the field, Lovend carries a 3.82 g.p.a. in athletic training,
has been named to the Dean's List every semester she has been a
student as Frostburg, is a member of FSU's honors program and is a
member of the athletic training club.
The Bobcat softball team finished 23-18 overall this spring and
advanced to the CAC Championship game for the second-straight
year.
