CNU’s Slaw, Martin Sweep C2C Softball Weekly Awards
The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the first week of the 2024 softball season. Christopher Newport's Candace Slaw earned C2C Player of the Week acclaim, while the Captains Jamie Martin claimed C2C Pitcher of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Candace Slaw, Christopher Newport
Slaw had an impressive debut for the Captains, recording six hits in eight at-bats for a .750 batting average in the doubleheader against Ferrum. She became just the 15th freshman in program history to record a four-hit day when she was 4-for-4 in game two of the twin bill. She drove in a pair and scored four times while also adding three stolen bases as the leadoff hitter for the Captains.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Jamie Martin, Christopher Newport
Martin struck out a career-high 13 batters in the opener, which equaled the sixth-highest total in program history. It also bumped her career total to 284, moving her to seventh on the school's
all-time charts. Earned the game one victory over Ferrum with six shutout innings, scattering four hits against the Panthers.
