SU’s Smith and Kelsch Receive C2C Men’s Track and Field Weekly Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2023-24 track and field season. Salisbury's Kai Smith was tabbed C2C Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while the Sea Gulls Logan Kelsch earned C2C Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kai Smith, Salisbury

Smith landed on the Division III national rankings in the 200m and 400m after running at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. Smith placed sixth in the 200m (collegiate) at 21.49 for a personal record and third in Division III, as well as seventh in the 400m (collegiate) at 48.64 and eighth nationally.  He currently leads both events in the C2C.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Logan Kelsch, Salisbury

Kelsch set a personal record in the discus with a second-place finish at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at 48.63m (159-06), which is the best mark in the C2C and second in Division III.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

UC Santa Cruz's Evan Hofstetter was 20th in 400m at Hornet Invite with time of 49.46, second-fastest mark in program history. Anchor on 4x400 that finished in 3:23.08, ninth-best in the country and the fourth-best in program history. Debuted in 110 hurdles in 18.29… Christopher Newport's Daniel Ferrante posted the top time by a Division III competitor in the 800 at the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational on Saturday at William & Mary. During the race, he crossed the line in 1:55.34, which marked the third-fastest clocking of his career and moved him into the top-10 on the national charts this year… Sophomore middle distance runner Luke Blair led Mary Washington's outdoor teams this weekend, as the Eagles kicked off the outdoor season at Washington & Lee. Blair finished in second place in the 1500 meters, with a time of 4:02.72 on Friday. Then, he took fifth in the 800 meters, with a time of 1:57.65, on Saturday… Competing against Division I and II athletes at Hornet Invite, UC Santa Cruz's Grant Nyhus placed ninth in Triple Jump with 13.44m. That was the school's new First Year record and third-best mark in program history. Had long jump of 6.40m to place 20th… Seth Morris moved up Christopher Newport's all-time charts in the shot put during the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational on Saturday at William & Mary. In the event, he established a new PR with a 14.96-meter launch. That not only led all Division III competitors at the meet, but it also marked the sixth-longest throw in school history. Additionally, it moved him to ninth on the national leaderboard in 2024.
