SU’s Smith and Kelsch Claim C2C Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 10th week of the 2023-24 track and field season. Salisbury's Kai Smith was named C2C Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while the Sea Gulls Logan Kelsch earned C2C Men's Field Athlete of the Week distinction.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kai Smith, Salisbury

Smith competed at the George Mason Ebanks Invitational in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m. Took first in the 400m with a new personal record of 48.42, which places him 23rd in the nation. During the 200m, Smith finished second, the top Division III competitor, with a time of 21.66. He currently leads the C2C in both the 200m and 400m.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Logan Kelsch, Salisbury

Kelsch strived in the discus and hammer throw at the George Mason Ebanks Invitational. Finished fourth in the discus as the top DIII athlete during the meet while setting a Salisbury record at 52.96m (173-9), placing him atop the C2C and fourth in the nation. Also set a personal record in the hammer with a throw of 47.93m (157-3), finishing seventh.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Christopher Newport's Tom Foti shattered his previous PR while climbing the conference leaderboard in the 10,000 on Friday at the 58th Annual Colonial Relays. During the race, he finished in 32:50.62, which shaved over two minutes off his PR set last year during the league championships. It also moved him to second on the conference charts this year… Mary Washington sophomore Jacinto Jones II finished in third place in the 200 meter dash at the Colonial Relays with a time of 21.78… Christopher Newport's Wade Dunkelberger moved to the top of the conference leaderboard in the high jump during the Colonial Relays on Saturday. In the event, he eclipsed 1.95 meters, which marked the second-highest clearance of his career. It also was the top effort in the league this year by two inches and moved him to 33rd on the NCAA charts.
