SU’s Smith, CNU’s Reeders Earn C2C Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week Recognition

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 12th week of the 2023-24 track and field season. Salisbury's Kai Smith captured C2C Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Christopher Newport's CJ Reeders was named C2C Men's Field Athlete of the Week.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kai Smith, Salisbury

Kai Smith won a pair of events with nationally relevant times at the Eastern Shore Challenge on Saturday. Smith broke the tape in the 200 meters at 21.13 seconds, good for 10th in Division III, and finished first in the 400 meters in 48.20 seconds, slotting 27th nationally.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: CJ Reeders, Christopher Newport

CJ Reeders climbed into the top-15 on the national charts in the triple jump after setting a new season-best on Saturday at the New Captains Classic. During the competition, he landed a 14.39 meters jump, which placed him first at the meet and 14th in the NCAA this year. It also marked his top showing since posting a 14.55-meter effort at last year's national championships.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Christopher Newport's Evan Young posted a victory in the 3000-steeplechase while setting a new PR in the event during the New Captains Classic on Saturday. In the race, he completed the gauntlet in 9:52.18, which topped the second-place runner by over 30 seconds… Mary Washington junior Jacob Lohr led the Eagles at the CNU New Captains Classic this weekend. He finished first in the 3000 meters at 8:55, and then ran the 800 meters, finishing 10th at 2:02.38… Salisbury's Logan Kelsch won two events and finished third in another at the Eastern Shore Challenge on Saturday. Kelsch placed first in the discus throw at 45.26m (184-6) and the hammer throw at 47.19m (154-10). He also took third in the shot put at 13.02m (42-8.75)… UC Santa Cruz's Evan Hofstetter competing at the Chico Invite, had PR of 57.31 in 400H. He also ran third leg of 4x100 relay that finished in 42.94 and recorded a PR in long jump (6.03m).
