CNU’s Morrison, Jackson Collect C2C Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fifth week of the 2024 women's lacrosse season. Christopher Newport's Brookelyn Morrison claimed C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Captains Emma Jackson was named C2C Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brookelyn Morrison, Christopher Newport

Morrison helped carry CNU to a pair of victories last week after dominating possession with a team-high 17 draw controls to go along with nine points. In a nationally ranked tilt against No. 19 St. John Fisher on Tuesday, she helped the squad control the tempo during a 10-9 win in Clearwater, Florida. Against the Cardinals, she controlled eight of the game's first 10 draws as the Captains built an early 5-3 lead that they would never relinquish. She also deposited a pair of goals, including a second-half free-position tally that helped thwart SJF's late comeback bid. On Sunday, she came back with a career-high seven points after notching four goals and three assists during a 19-4 win over Rhodes. Three of her tallies were man-up goals, which established a new single-game program record. Meanwhile, she also collected a season-high nine draw controls.  Coupled with her work on the attack, she became just the fifth player in program history to record at least seven draws and seven points in a single contest.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Emma Jackson, Christopher Newport

Jackson starred on the back line while helping Christopher Newport post a pair of victories last week. On Tuesday in a 10-9 win over No. 19 St. John Fisher, she helped anchor a defensive effort that limited the Cardinals to only 19 shots, which marked the fewest by a nationally ranked opponent since 2021. On Sunday, she helped hold Rhodes to a season-low 10 shots during a 19-4 win in Newport News. On an individual level, she forced five turnovers against the Lynx, which marked the second-highest total of her career. She also collected a game-high four ground balls, which equaled her finest effort in two years.

HONORABLE MENTION

OFFENSE: Katie Blair, Mary Washington

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Senior attacker Katie Blair led the Mary Washington offense this week, scoring five goals and adding an assist as UMW finished the week with a 1-1 record. She netted two goals and an assist as the Eagles topped Kenyon, 10-8, on Thursday, and scored a hat trick in the Eagles' loss to Haverford on Sunday. She leads the Eagles with 16 goals on the season.
