Salisbury’s Hanzsche, Held Sweep C2C Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2024 women's lacrosse season. Salisbury's Mary Hanzsche earned C2C Offensive Player of the Week acclaim, while the Sea Gulls Natalie Held claimed C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mary Hanzsche, Salisbury

Hanzsche served as the engine of Salisbury's attack, logging 10 points across two games in the week. Hanzsche was stellar against fourth-ranked Gettysburg on Wednesday, notching career-highs in goals (4) and points (7). She added three points on a goal and two assists in the team's 16-4 victory over No. 16 Roanoke on Saturday.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Natalie Held, Salisbury

Held led a staunch Salisbury defense that surrendered just 11 goals across a pair of games against No. 4 Gettysburg and No. 16 Roanoke. Held secured six draw controls and added one ground ball against Gettysburg before dominating against Roanoke, tallying four draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers in the win.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Kelsey Winters led Christopher Newport with 10 points during the week, including the 347th of her career, which established a new school record. On Wednesday against Widener, she handed out five assists, including four in the first 20 minutes as the Captains stormed out to an early lead that they would never relinquish. On Saturday, she came back with five more points against Haverford. She dished out four assists, including two in the second half as CNU attempted to battle back from a three-goal deficit. Additionally, she landed a goal in the second quarter, which officially moved her past Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Meghan Harkey for the top spot on the program's all-time points list… Warren Wilson's Taylor Smith stepped up this week after an injury to play attack. She had a career best three points with two goals and an assist to help the Owls win against St Andrews. She also contributed two ground balls and one CT during outstanding rides… Brookelyn Morrison led Christopher Newport with 10 caused turnovers during the week, which equaled the third-most by a Captain over a two-game stretch in program history. On Wednesday against Widener, she registered six takeaways, including three during a seven-minute window in the fourth quarter that quieted the Prides' comeback attempt. Two of her takeaways immediately led to goals on the other end, while a third killed off a man-down situation in the final stanza.  Additionally, she chipped in with six points on the offensive side, becoming the first player in program history to record six caused turnovers and six points in a single game. On Saturday against Haverford, she came back with four more caused turnovers, becoming just the sixth player in school history to have at least four takeaways in back-to-back games. Overall, the Captains finished the contest with 18 total caused turnovers, equaling the seventh-most in program history. For her part, Morrison also added three draw controls, three ground balls, and three goals during the battle with the Fords… Warren Wilson's Hayden Drescher had an outstanding game against St. Andrews with 18 saves for a 69.2 save percentage. She made several back-to-back saves to preserve the Owls 9-8 win. In a loss at Guilford on Saturday, Drescher made eight saves to surpass 200 in her career.
