Salisbury’s Mears and Hunsinger Claim C2C Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Honors

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2024 women's lacrosse season. Salisbury's Miranda Mears was named C2C Offensive Player of the Week, while the Sea Gulls Kaitlyn Hunsinger earned C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Miranda Mears, Salisbury

Mears strung together a solid week for the Sea Gulls, scoring and nabbing a ground ball in the team's Wednesday win over Messiah. Mears added her third hat trick of the campaign over the weekend, logging three goals on four shots and snatching two more loose balls in the ranked 9-6 victory over York (Pa.).


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kaitlyn Hunsinger, Salisbury

Hunsinger topped 200 career saves amidst an excellent week, logging 14 saves while leading a Salisbury unit that conceded just 10 goals across two wins. Hunsinger's best efforts came against #14 York (Pa.) as she made a season-high 11 saves.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Syd Guidi led Christopher Newport with 13 goals during the week after registering a hat-trick in each of her three appearances. She opened the stretch with three strikes in a nationally-ranked showdown at No. 14 York (Pa.) on Wednesday. Then, over the weekend, she added back-to-back five-goal outbursts against Denison and Kenyon. She also secured four consecutive draw controls against the Owls on Sunday during an early stretch that saw the Captains overcome a two-goal deficit before storming back for the decisive victory… Warren Wilson's Callie Aerni scored four goals with four ground balls to lift the Owls past Spalding on Saturday.  This year, she has started every game and multiplied her scoring… Julia Iapicca led Christopher Newport with six caused turnovers and 10 ground balls during three appearances last week. In a top-20 showdown at No. 14 York (Pa.) on Wednesday, she recorded a team-high five ground balls while also adding a takeaway and goal. Over the weekend, she came back with three caused turnovers on Saturday at Denison and a pair on Sunday at Kenyon. She also matched her season-high with six goals during the comeback victory over the Owls to cap off the week… During Saturday's win, Warren Wilson's Hayden Drescher surpassed 100 season saves and sits at 269 in her career, which leads the program.  She recorded 15 saves in the 11-5 victory over Spalding.  The Owls defense held Spalding scoreless in the third quarter despite six shots on goal. In the 4th, Drescher stopped 6-of-8 shots.
