Frostburg State And Stevenson Gain Top Two Seeds In ECAC South Women's Soccer Championship Tournament
Frostburg State and Stevenson were selected as the top two seeds in the 2011 ECAC Division III South Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
FSU (14-2-2) is the top seed in the eight-team tournament and will host a first-round contest Wednesday against eighth-seeded Grove City (12-8-1). If FSU defeats Grove City, the Bobcats will host the semifinal (Saturday) and championship (Sunday) rounds.
The second seed in the tournament is 2010 CAC champion Stevenson (12-5-3). The Mustangs will host Neumann (12-6-1) in Wednesday's opening round.
If Frostburg State wins its first-round match, the Bobcats will play the winner of the Penn State-Altoona (13-4-3) vs. Penn State-Abington (16-1-1) first-round clash.
If Stevenson wins its first-round contest, the Mustangs would meet the winner of the Swarthmore (12-6-0) vs. Albright (8-4-5) first-round contest.
FSU marks the second-straight season and third time in the last
four years that FSU has hosted the ECAC Tournament.
Stevenson will be making its fourth-straight postseason
appearance. The second-seeded Mustangs will host seventh-seeded
Neumann at Mustang Stadium on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
Stevenson (12-5-3) has been selected to the ECAC South Championship
in
three of the last four years, advancing to the semifinals in
2009. Last year, the Mustangs won the CAC title and played in
the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Stevenson is 1-2 in the ECAC South Championship, losing 1-0 at
Dickinson in the first round in 2008 before defeating Moravian at
home 3-2 in double overtime and falling to Swarthmore 1-0 at Penn
State Altoona in 2009. A win by both the Mustangs and Swarthmore in
Wednesday's first round would set-up a rematch in the
semifinals.
