INTRODUCING ... Hood College two-sport starter Jennifer Fischer

INTRODUCING … Hood College two-sport starter Jennifer Fischer, who is a four-year starter on defense for the women’s soccer team and hopes to earn a starting nod for the second season in the spring for the lacrosse team.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?   I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old.  I originally played for an MSI team and then I moved around a few club teams until I joined the Olney Wildcats.  I played on my middle school team and played all 4 years at my high school.  This year will be my fourth year playing in college.  Also, when I have had a chance to I have played co-ed indoor soccer.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  My favorite spot on campus is probably the Whitaker Campus Center because I am able to get work done there if I need to, but I also have the opportunity to socialize with a lot of my friends.  It is a great place to meet up with people that you haven’t gotten to see in awhile, and it is in a good location on campus.  Also, it has a place to get different kinds of foods and drinks.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?  My favorite place would probably be the beach because no matter who you go with, whether its family or friends, you can always have a great time!

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?  I am also currently a member of the women’s lacrosse team and I have volunteered for a few fundraisers and events to help out for good causes.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.  My most memorable experience during my collegiate athletic career would have to be from my freshman year when we made it to the second round of the conference tournament and being named to the All-CAC team.  It was the first time that Hood had ever made the CAC playoffs and I was just so happy to be a part of it.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  I think one of the most important societal issues for college students has to do with feeling pressured to go to parties and drink.  A lot of the students in college think that since they are on their own they should go to parties and drink.  But not everyone shares that view, so they have to deal with people pressuring them to drink and go out.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?  If I could change anything in the world I would change our economy because in our society it is getting more and more difficult for people to further their education because they cannot afford it.  I think that one way to help stop this would be to stop paying our professional athletes hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a sport they love and instead give it to the school systems to use to lower tuition prices or provide more scholarships for students.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   My major is Elementary and Special Education.  I have learned a lot so far in this major, including every student learns differently, but it is very important to try to meet the needs of each student to help them reach their full potential as a student.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  I would have to say the most influential person in my life, other than my family, would probably have to be my most recent club coach, Ben, because not only is he a great coach but he is also a great person.  He helped me through a really tough time in my life when I lost my dad and he taught me that when you work really hard at something you can achieve something great.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is watching TV because there are so many different options to watch.  For example, I could watch news and then change it to something funny or a movie.

What is your favorite source of information (TV, book, magazine, website, friends in dining hall, etc.)?   My favorite source of information is my mom because she usually provides me with all of the facts that I need to know in a short amount of time.  She makes it so I don’t have to be on the computer or watching the news to get the information.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  If I could give one piece of advice to elementary school children it would be to always try their hardest and to keep telling themselves that they can do it.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference my favorite team is the Redskins.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   The first person I would really like to meet is Ronaldinho because I look to him as being one of the best soccer players. The second person I would like to have dinner with is Brad Paisley and the last person is Mark Harmon.
