Frostburg State Women's Soccer Coach Brian Parker Wins Maryland Assoc. Of Coaches Of Soccer (MACS) Award
Frostburg State head women's soccer coach Brian Parker was honored with the 2011 Edward Finzel Honor Award at the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer (MACS) banquet on Monday evening.
The award, which has been handed out since 1984, recognizes the
service of an individual outside of the MACS organization.
The honor carries the name of the late Edward Finzel, the long time
coach at Beall High School in Frostburg and a youth coach in the
area. He is credited with advocating for the first state-wide
high school playoff system, which is still in use today.
The MACS is the state's high school coaches' association, and it
names all-state teams and runs an all-star game.
Parker earns the award on the heels of an ECAC South Regional
Championship for his Bobcats last fall. Frostburg finished the
season 17-2-2, and Parker holds an overall record of 147-46-18 in
10 seasons at FSU.
Prior to that, he started the girls' soccer program at Urbana High School and also the Frederick United Soccer Club. He's also involved with the Maryland Olympic Development Program and the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association.
