Salisbury’s Mattia, Christopher Newport’s Slater Selected C2C Women's Soccer Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2023 women's soccer season. Salisbury's Abby Mattia captured C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Christopher Newport's Reanna Slater picked up C2C Defensive Player of the Week distinction.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Abby Mattia, Salisbury

In the lone game played by Salisbury this week, Abby Mattia played the role of the hero for the Sea Gulls. The freshman scored the only goal in Salisbury's 1-0 win over No. 17 Washington and Lee to extend their streak to five straight shutout victories and the program's first win over W&L.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Reanna Slater, Christopher Newport

Starting center back for the Captains helped secure the 10th and 11th shutout in 13 games this season with a 3-0 win at Southern Virginia and 1-0 victory over Mary Washington… Scored the game-winning goal against the Eagles with a corner kick goal in the second half… Slater and the Captains' defense allowed just five total shots to hand Southern Virginia its first loss in nearly three weeks… Has been on the field for all but five minutes this season (99.57% of minutes)… Leads a defense that has allowed only two goals this season, both on penalties, while holding opponents to fewer than five shots per game.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Eliza Franklin scored the game winner in Mary Washington's victory over St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday… UC Santa Cruz's Sydney Boyd scored two goals on seven shots in 4-0 win over Pacific Union. Had an assist in 8-0 home win over Lincoln to help Banana Slugs to longest win streak since 2009. Leads team in 2023 with nine goals… Kat Thomsen contributed to three goals in Pratt's dominant 6-0 win over Five Towns College. She scored once and dished out a pair of assists as Pratt won their second straight and moved back over the .500 mark… UC Santa Cruz's Amelia Brown posted 0.67 GAA in three complete games. She totaled seven saves in 2-1 week as goalkeeper. Brown had two saves in shutout win at rival Chapman, breaking a five-game losing streak against the Panthers. Added four saves to close weekend at Cal Lutheran… In Mary Washington's two games this week, Sydney Alexander recorded three total saves and shutout St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday.
