Hood Freshman Emily Maerz Captures CAC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week Honor

Hood freshman EMILY MAERZ (Myersville, Md./Middletown) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after winning three singles matches and three doubles matches last week. Maerz lost only three games in three singles wins against Shenandoah, Trinity (D.C.) and Wesley in the CAC playoffs, then went 24-2 in three doubles matches with partner Danielle Hunt. Saturday’s victory over Wesley was the Blazers’ first-ever conference playoff win.

Mary Washington junior COURTNEY GOIMARAC (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after going undefeated at the No. 1 position and leading the 16th-ranked Eagles to four wins. In addition to her singles victory in UMW’s win over CAC rival Salisbury, she won singles and doubles matches against St. Mary’s and Muhlenberg, helping coach Patrick Catullo register his 100th victory in Fredericksburg, Va.

Salisbury freshman JILLIAN POPPE (Califon, N.J./Vorhees) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 6-0 record in a trio of CAC singles and doubles matches against St. Mary’s, Hood and Stevenson. Poppe paired with Jackie Burr for three doubles victories, dropping just one set all weekend.

Mary Washington sophomore MICHELLE MEADOWS (Virgina Beach, Va./Collegiate) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 9-0 CAC win at Wesley. She posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at two singles before teaming with Katie Schafer to win at one doubles, 8-0. Meadows is 11-7 in singles action this year, including a 2-0 mark against CAC opponents.

Mary Washington sophomore KATIE SCHAFER (New Market, Md./Linganore) was named the CAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after opening the season with a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark, leading the Eagles to a 3-1 team record. All four singles wins were in straight sets, including a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles in UMW’s lone team loss of the season against NCAA Division I rival George Mason.
