Mary Washington and Salisbury posted shutout victories over St. Mary's this weekend to secure the top two seeds in the 2012 CAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. SMC added a win Sunday against Stevenson to nail down the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
The defending champion Eagles (13-4, 7-0 CAC) will be the top seed in the CAC post-season tournament while Salisbury (9-9, 6-1 CAC) will be the No. 2 seed. Both will gain first-round playoff byes, then host semifinal games on Monday, April 23.
St. Mary's (13-6, 5-2 CAC), which defeated Stevenson by an 8-1 margin, clinched the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will host a first-round match on Saturday (4/21).
York (6-10, 3-4 CAC) and Frostburg State (4-9, 2-4 CAC) have also clinched a playoff spot, but must await the outcome of Tuesday's FSU at Hood match to determine the final three playoff seeds.
If FSU beats Hood, York will be the No. 4 seed and host the #5 Bobcats in the opening round of the playoffs. That would also give Stevenson (5-7, 2-5 CAC) the No. 6 seed and a trip to SMC for a first-round playoff showdown.
If Hood (7-10, 2-4 CAC) tops the Bobcats, the Blazers will gain the No. 4 seed and host the Spartans in the first round. FSU would then get the No. 6 seed and play at SMC in the opening round of the playoffs.
