Google Cloud Academic All-District Track/Cross Country Teams: Men | Women

The College Sports Information Directors of America released its 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field / Cross Country Teams on Tuesday afternoon. Four representatives from the CAC were recognized: Salisbury senior Conner Masteran, Salisbury sophomore Sydney Ruckel, Frostburg State senior Robert Romano and Christopher Newport sophomore Zoe Stauffer.

Masteran, a senior chemistry major, posted a 3.93 grade point average during his time as an athlete for the Salisbury track & field program. The Hampstead, Maryland native has also earned recognition from the Capital Athletic Conference being named to the CAC All-Academic Team.

Masteran will finish his career in the maroon and gold as the owner of two indoor records in both the 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run. He also owns the outdoor track & field record in the 3,000-meter run, which he set earlier this season.

Ruckel, a sophomore, has accumulated a grade point average of 4.00 as an exercise science major while representing the maroon and gold throughout the entire academic year. The Mt. Airy, Maryland native was also recognized as a freshman by the CAC as she was named to the All-Academic Team.

Ruckel rounded out her sophomore season capturing eight top-five finishes in track & field, including two victories at the 2019 CAC outdoor championships in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. She also finished no lower than 25th four times during the cross country season, which included a 24th-place finish at the CAC championships that was good enough to qualify her for the 2018 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Cross Country Championships.

Romano boasts a 3.80 GPA and majors in engineering for the Bobcats and he is a three-time USTFCCCA DIII Cross Country All-Academic honoree. Romano is a three-time CAC All-Academic honoree, a five-time Dean's List student and he was voted as Frostburg's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year this past year.

A Great Mills, Md. native, Romano was the CAC Outdoor Champion in the 1,500-meter run (3:54.65) and was also a First Team All-CAC selection. During the indoor season, Romano helped the Distance Medley Relay team to the league title in 10:28.41, while landed him a First Team All-CAC medal. Individually, Romano was runner-up in the league in the mile (4:23.13).

Stauffer has been exceptional during her time in Newport News. During her second year with the Captains, she secured All-Region accolades for her efforts in both the pentathlon and heptathlon. One of the most accomplished athletes in the area, she led the South / Southeast Region in the heptathlon after posting a score of 4,138 during the New Captains Classic. She also ranked second in the pentathlon during the indoor campaign.

Along with her work in the combined events, Stauffer won the conference championship in the javelin with a 39.44-meter toss at the title meet. Later in the spring, she landed a 39.63-meter throw at the Williams Final Qualifier, which stands as the second-best performance in CNU history.

All-District honorees now move on to the national ballot, with the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams set to be announced in June.
