INTRODUCING ... Frostburg State Junior Volleyball Middle Hitter Morgan Hoover

Frostburg State junior volleyball middle hitter Morgan Hoover is a dedicated Pittsburgh sports fan, and for two of the three pro teams in the Steel City, it’s a good time to root for Black & Gold.  The Recreation and Parks Management major also has good advice for youngsters – play and have fun!  INTRODUCING … Morgan Hoover.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?   This is my 8th year playing volleyball competitively.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major is Recreation & Parks Management.  The most important thing I’ve learned is to have fun in what you do.

What is your favorite spot on campus?   My favorite place is the locker room because it is quiet and empty most of the time.  It’s a good place to chill in between classes.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?   I like to visit Pittsburgh because the city is beautiful and I love all of the professional sports teams! Let’s go Pens!

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?  Currently I am not in any organizations, but I plan to join the Rec Society this semester.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.   My most memorable experience was being named Athlete of the Week for Frostburg State (10/3/12).

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  Peer pressure because friends might have done something and want you to try it.

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?   I want every person to have the opportunity to play.  There are communities where children make soccer balls out of anything, so they can play.  I want to provide those communities with the proper equipment.  I would do this by finding an organization where I can donates balls to help the children have the proper equipment.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  The most important person is my club coach of four years, Catherine Lavery.  She helped me grow as a player and a person.  She believes in me to do great things.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  I enjoy television because I watch a lot of shows and it helps me to relax.

What is your favorite source of information (TV, book, magazine, website, friends in dining hall, etc.)?   Social media, like Facebook and Twitter, because there are many people using it and that is how news gets spread around the quickest.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?   I would tell them to always have fun in what they are doing.

Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?  My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.  I started watching them in the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs and have not stopped.  I like the aggressiveness, toughness, and skill level of professional hockey.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   Sidney Crosby, Troy Polamalu, and Beau Bennett because I think they are phenomenal players and would be cool people to meet!
