York Collects Third Consecutive CAC Women's Cross Country Championship

Results 

The York women's cross country team secured its third consecutive Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Va., paced by four runners in the top-eight finishers. The Spartans totaled 37 points to earn a 13-point victory over second-place Mary Washington (50 points). 

Christopher Newport finished third with a total of 69 points, with Salisbury close behind in fourth (82 points). St. Mary's took fifth with 140 points, with Southern Virginia (149), Frostburg State (214) and Penn State Harrisburg (242) rounding out the team scores in sixth through eighth, respectively. 

 

Another balanced team effort led York to its third-straight crown, led by senior Alayna DeBruin in fourth place. Three Spartans crossed the line in sixth through eighth place, with sophomore Emma Rogers, senior Jess Delviscio, and freshman Jordan Haberstroh, respectively, executing a pack style of running for York. Freshman Taylor Barkdoll finished 12th to close out the scoring for the Spartans. 

Mary Washington secured the top two placings in the championship, paced by senior Jillian Weisbeck with a 6k time of 23:45.8. Fellow UMW senior Emily Knerr crossed second in 23:57.6 to give the Eagles a strong one-two punch at the top of the individual results en route to their second-place team finish. Freshman Camy Delean placed 11th for the Eagles while sophomores Ashley Applegate (17th) and Carly Hughes (19th) also posted top-20 placings for UMW. 

Third-place Christopher Newport was led by junior Monica Lannen in third place, while junior Samantha Dickerson (10th place), junior Jessica Lee (13th place), and freshman Logan Funk (15th place) also secured top-16 placings for the Captains to earn All-CAC recognition. 

St. Mary's sophomore Kara Taylor led the Seahawks with a fifth-place overall finish, while Salisbury junior Ashley Mazer (9th place) and freshman Catie Cambon (14th place) secured All-CAC nods for the Sea Gulls. 

Host Southern Virginia was led by freshman Jill Westman in 16th place.
